Just Purchased a 01 CLK 430! What's Next?
Hi Everyone,
I visit this site on a regular basis. I've learned so much about Mercedes, especially the CLK class (W208 Model) from this site. Thank you everyone for the info.
Here is what I got:
01 CLK 430 Designo Espresso (still don't know much about this particular option except it has special paint).
tan nappa leather
26,000 Miles
AMG package
Moon Roof
Heated Seats
Xenon
Head lights washer
Rear window sunshade
CD changer
Phone/VR
Interior wood trim
Price: $39K (is this an average fair price?)
Questions:
1. How do I reset the SOS warning error message at every start up (is this something to do with Tele-Aid)?
2. How can I upgrade the COMAND navigation system (Who/where/cost)?
3. Comments/Suggestions?

1.) Have the dealer reprogram it... although, many dealers have refused to reset that error message due to safety issues.
2.) Yes, Steve (MBenzNL) is the person you want to contact for a Euro Spec COMAND... installed, it runs about $1500

First mod will be the euro COMAND from Steve. He is in San Francisco. His next stop will be LA/Orange County. I am going to pay for his flight to Las Vegas to do the mod for me. How about a group purchase in Vegas?
Questions:
1. How do I post pics? Do I need to upload them to someplace first?
2. I want to wax the car. Which wax do you recommend?
3. Any ideas regarding the location for hardwire a Passport 8500 X50 Radar detector? Is there interference if I place it above the rear view mirror?
4. What type of leather cleaner/conditioner do you recommend?
5. Where can I get the owner manual? Anyone have an extra copy?
6. I think I need the CD for California/Nevada for the COMAND, what is the latest version and where can I get it?
7. What COLOR should I use to paint the brake caliper to match with the Designo Espresso? Where can I get the paint kit?
8. Where is the best place to buy Mercedes's parts/accessories?

I'll just anwer one and let others take a stab at the other (or, your could use the search feature)
4. I like Lexol. Vinylex for the non-leather trim.

Used to be a CLK430
3. My 8500 is hardwired and mounted right next to my rearview mirror on the driver's side. If you put it in the tinted portion you will seriously reduce range and effectiveness. Good luck!
