Tapping sound from the engine?
I was driving around for quite a while yesterday and after a while, I noticed that there appeared to be a tapping sound coming from around the engine compartment (I think). The tapping sound, which comes in 1 second intervals, only happens when the car is not in motion or moving extremely slowly.
Any ideas?

If I bring it to the dealer and ask the tech guy to listen. Suddenly the sound is not there, how would they know ?
However, you do bring up a good point. They probably wouldn't be able to troubleshoot the problem if the sound isn't there when you bring it in. Do you live or work close to the dealer? If so, you can just swing by whenever it's making the noise so that the service advisor can make a note of it.
Thanks anyway
dealership for 2 weeks now and they still have no $^$&@^@#% idea what's wrong with it. What do these guys actually do anyway? To make matters worse, the service advisor asked me to not call him and that he'll call if and when he has news, but of course he has no idea when that might be.I'm most likely going to pull it out of that bad excuse for a MB stealership and bring it to another one. Am also thinking of calling MBUSA customer service but am unsure if that'll accomplish anything.
Any thoughts?
The interior of the car was also quite dirty with shoe marks on the passenger door, presumably from the tech's shoes when he was working on it. Ironically, the car also seems to squeak now when going over bumps (it didn't do that before). I'm done dealing with that dealership.
I just can't believe that all this came from a MB dealership.
