Need some install pointers w/ badge and grille
I also had a few quick “is this correct” questions:
1. why is the badge larger than the whole? Part number is A-638-817-01-16. (is this the correct hood badge for 01 clk 320)
2. why is the Mercedes star on the grille need to be glued on?
Wanted to get some pointers on the install. First how the hell do I take that factory hood star off, lol. I was on a mission this morning (yeah my girl saw me pop the hood I thought I was the man)and crushed when I couldn’t figure it out (back inside the house).
I was also told I could (should) use some silicon on the badge? Has anyone put silicon on their badge? If so, do I actually put that on the paint (hood)?
Is there a “special” way to glue the star on the grille? Anyone had any problems with the install…. trying to learn from others mistakes.
ps.. I know this is not a huge install like what Steve does but I never do these things and just don’t want to mess my car up.
Thanks x 1000 !!!

Well as far as the hood star goes...
if I remember correctly, there is a metal U-shaped piece (about 2" thick) on the other side of trunk from the the hood star. Use a pair of plyers or your hand to twist it until it finds the groove where it will release the star. Tada.....:cheers
P.S. can't help with the grill....

I just installed my yesterday and it was easier than putting air in the tires. Mine did not come w/ tools. The star had clips on it snapped into the grille. The emblem is larger than the hole in the hood but thats the way it was meant to be.

The star wasnt attached, I had to do it myelf and it did not come w/ glue either. The grille was wrapped in a MB plastic bag and the star was in a seperate bag w/ a MB star halogram sticker. It has also had what appeared to be a MB invoice or part number from Germany.
