Exclamation Bad new brakes?

hi, I have a clk320, brake idiot light came on, pulled pads and rotors, replaced...new OEM parts...NOT off eBay...took quick test drive, and hear a. Light intermittent scraping as if something is riding the side of the rotor and when I quickly braked to a stop and the car did not “pull” at all, but the brake petal pulsates through the petal. Pulled over and as I came to a complete stop it grinds as if Pads were down metal to metal through the petal as well???

Pulled wheels again, checked...nothing close to scraping...rotors do not seem to be warped at all, pads....light rub with the pads...nothing else EXCEPT when I pulled the drivers side the retaining spring is missing...

would this missing spring cause these issues? Please help!!!! What am I missing? I’ve changed dozens and dozens of brakes, NEVER HAD THIS ISSUE, IM STUMPED!!! HELP!

just a summery...slight scraping, pulsates when brakes applied and grinds when coming to a complete stop.
thanks in advance...

If retaining clip is missing or not set properly,

pads will move inward/backward incorrectly, that will affect to brakes directly, they will not perform as it should..!,

prefer to check everything again,,

and should to not install brake pads without any missing "retaining clips/main springs/reducing noise paste/sensors"..

Thank you, i just pulled the wheels off again, and I believe the pulsating is caused by the retintion spring as well...that makes perfect sense.

But what stumps me completely is the grinding...it sounds exactly as if you had worn, down to the metal pads....and were damaging the rotor...the grind is that bad. The only moving parts are the pads and rotors..again can not find the cause, would the spring cause this grinding as well?

When I installed new pads, I used a flat thin board and a “C”clamp, slowly tightening...carful to push the pistons in evenly...they went in fully...I pushed them level with the inner wall of the caliper. Is it possible that I could have pushed the piston in too far, causing damaged it somehow? Again, it was pushed fully in but just level...done it time and time again...hmmmm.....

Can I test the calipers some way while on the car, or do I have to pull them? (Hope not!)....

You can check it Rotor is freely moving or sicking, that's a sign if caliper piston jammed or not react properly,,

or remove the Rotor & let someone to apply brakes, then see how pistons react..

One thing given your description of grinding. If the Brake backing plate is bent enough to touch the rotor is will make a metal on metal scraping noise. Just bend the backing plate back. Ask me how I know.
