Someone told me it cost about US$100 to get a replacement key for his 2000 E class W210. This is in Singapore.

I believe if you are buying one in the USA, they are shipped via FedEx from Maryland, where they are programmed.

From what i was told, keys are cut in Germany at the factory. And, the prices range from anywhere between $100-150, at the discretion of the dealer/sales person.

My SA was able to get me a 3rd key for free, and then got my friend a new key for his w202 for free also...

Did you get the shipping envelope with yours?

Maybe if you are in Europe and you order keys there, they'll come from Germany.

I got a replacement key for my CLK from the local stealer. It cost about $130 and was ready in 2 days. They were extremely paranoid about the registration and required my ID to get the key made. I guess the security is a positive - I would not want anyone "buying" a copy of my key. They new key was also the smaller, newer style.

BTW, I also heard that my car can only have a max of 6 keys, and then you have to replace the locking mechanism. Not sure where I heard this...

Goodluck!

The keys are now coming from Texas. Last year they were being coded from Baltimore MD. The lowest price Ive been able to get is $121.50 from a dealer in CA.

They are required to see a copy of your registration and Driver's license.

Oh, BTW, the keys are now smaller.

thanks for the feedback guys... im going to dealer tomorrow to find out, i called up they said approx 150..

my car is an elegance model from europe so im hoping those keys wont have to be made in europe as well.. i just found out there's only a 2 year worldwide warranty on european spec cars as well...

im driving around with one key now, so if i lose that one im completely screwed... how would i handle something like that if god forbid i was to lose my only key?? have the car towed to a dealer and they could pull the info off the computer inside the car maybe??

the keys are the same... but that particular key is the older version.

the newer keys are smaller, and the panic button is on the front side (round button) rather than on the top edge of the key.
