Need car stereo help (wire harness).
Hey Mitra thanks for your work on this. We were given a 2000 CLK320 this month from the inlaws. I went to install a new radio and I had your exact same experience. With car running and checking with the DMM, only one 12 volt lead. With the car off, still only one 12 volt lead, so definitely missing switched power. Also, just like you, no connector in slot 7. To be honest, I'm quite uncertain how the stock radio knows how to switch on.
Anyway, I tapped into the cigarette lighter and it works fantastic. I'll post pics when I'm done, but I need to run wires for mic and backup cam, mount USB for carplay, and then properly mount the DDIN unit.
Just wondering... Did anyone happen to see a harness back there that is just two orange wires connecting to a black plastic case about the size of a 50 cent piece? It's like a standalone harness that doesn't go to anything. I'm not talking about the harness that you don't use from the disc changer. It looks more like it could hold a fuse or something. I'll take a pick of it during the rest of my install.
