W208 Vacuum Pump Mounting

Hi!

I removed my Vacuum pump from my trunk to replace it but forgot to take pictures on how it was positioned and mounted.

Can someone send me a picture of what their vacuum pump looks like installed in their trunk?

Thank you,

Howard

From the MB Workshop Manual, the PSE control module is also installed in the foam cube in the cabriolets as well.

interesting that it tells you to perform version coding with HHT, whatever that is.

ok, a friend of mine who has a 2002 CLK430 cabriolet took some pictures. It’s just friction fitted.

OK, now that have finally resolved your initial question, regarding how the W208 vacuum pump is mounted, the reason why the MB Workshop Manual states that version coding must be performed with the HHT (hand held tester) when replacing the PSE control module, is that a MB dealership will only use a brand new (virgin) module, which has never been vehicle coded.

The reason for vehicle version coding, is that it provides manufacturers the ability to use the same components on different models throughout their product offerings and MB used the same PSE control module in numerous models (e.g. W208 CLK ,W210 E, W202 C classes).

When properly coded, the CanBus network nodal configuration and programing is exactly matched to which model you have, how your car was equipped etc..

If you purchased a previously used unit, the controller coding from the donor vehicle initializations may be incorrect and will need to be re-coded.

It seems to be working without having it coded.

if all functions are working and the unit came from a used CLK320 Cabriolet do I still need to have it coded? I would I know it needs to be coded?

If all of your vehicle functions operate properly, you should be good to go (without any version coding revisions).
