Top speed of CLK 320

I know many people brought this up in the past but I would like to know what is the exact top speed of CLK320. The fastest speed I achieved was 220 km/h (137.5 mph) and I didn't want to try if it could go faster or not because the speed rating of the Michelin is 210 km/h (130 mph) and I am afraid the tire would disintegrate or blow up. My cousin has a C230 Sport Coupe (MT)with Evolution package and he did 230 km/h before he hit the speed limiter. His friend has a CLK430 and the top speed he achieved is 240 km/h (149mph). I thought the governor limits the top speed to 210 km/h (130mph) on all Benz except SL and AMG vehicles and that's why I am confused..... what is the actual top speed of non-AMG Benz?

It depends on the model, whether it can reach the speed limiter or not, if there is a speed limiter fitted, for what country/region the car was manufactured, and the date of manufacture of the car.

You can't just break it up to "AMG vs. non-AMG".

I thought all the Mercedes except SL and AMG in US and Canada are governed at 130mph or 210 km/h, but it seems the top speed is varied. In October 2002 Car and Driver, they tested a CLK500 and the top speed was 130 mph, though it was equipped with Pirelli PZero Rosso Y Rated tires. CLK320 is only equipped with H rated tires (130mph), so I am wondering if anyone has exceeded the speed limit of the tires?

Are you guys driving US or Euro spec cars? My CLK has Michelin Energy MXV4 and they are H rated, that's why I stopped accelerate once I hit 220 km/h. I am wondering whether the governor is set a bit higher than 130 mph if the OE tires are Z-rated. My cousin's C230 sport coupe has Continental Sport Contact 225/45ZR17 and the governor cuts in at 230 km/h (143.75).

Don't sweat the H Tire Ratings....

Yes, the speed ratings on our tires DO reflect the structural integrity of the tire to some degree, but are based mainly on the tires ability to handle heat buildup from EXTENDED high speed driving. A tire rated for 130 mph is able to maintain that speed all day without overheating . A couple minutes run up to "see what she'll do" is generally not an issue, within 20-25 mph of the rated sustained speed.

MUCH more important is the tire pressure, and state of repair of the tires. Under inflated tires of any speed rating build heat VERY quickly at high speeds, and any tire that has been patched is potential trouble at the limit.
