2002 CLK 320
Oil type and capacity

02 clk320, 400k+ miles

Ok so I have seen different answers to this but I need to change my oil and idk which oil to get. Advance auto says 0w-40. AutoZone says 5w-30 and so does oil cap. I ask because on my other car the oil cap had been switched when a tech lost the original according to the previous owner.

So my question is which oil is the correct oil and how much will I need?

You can look up the specs that MB recommends for your car. Go by the spec number that MB recommends. It will be printed on the back of the bottle/jug.

Call up your nearest MB dealership, ask the parts dept clerk, or read the thread in this site. Your manual tells you what type too. OEM is mobil 0W-40!

I looked in the manual that I do have it didn't tell me a a type just how many quarts it needs which is 8.5 with filter replacement. So should I just use 0W-40 or does where I live actually make a difference?

I stand corrected on my own post I though the oil cap said an oil type. It is blank. I do see a sticker that says MB recommends Mobil 1 but it doesn't tell me the type. My uncle used to own this car and thankfully he kept all work orders on this car in the manual pouch so I'm going to read over them to see what oil was used at the dealer he went to.

European Formula Advanced full synthetic. I just brought two 5 liters last week at wal-mart for $27.59. The 1 liter was $8.97 per, so i got the better deal. I ordered by mann oil fiters online got two for $12.00, vice dealer wanting 18.00 for one.

I am busy with the 240 000 km service on my CLK430 and I bought what the dealer recommended part nr 000-989-63-08/13AAEE which is a 5W-40. The operators manual says 0W-40 but it is not available. I assume it’s fully synthetic but no where on the bottle does it give the specs. Maybe 5W-40 is better in our climate. See attached pictures.

The dealer did the same for me also, no harm will occur. I will go back to 0w40 for my next oil change.
