First post - she’s completely dead

Hello from Canada. Our office is going to have some fun modding for charity a 2000 CLK 320 black black cab donated to us by a friend of mine. The car is a 6.5 on 10 …yet won’t start. It’s run perfectly until the Saturday it was dropped off because when I went to start it on the Monday…it was dead - mort - no life whatsoever. Put my booster pack on it and it tells me it’s under 2 V so won’t work…put charger on it - reads 0 v. Asking a stupid question but is there a relay somewhere that may have tripped that would cause this condition? I know the car well as the donor is a close friend of mine and this is very uncharacteristic of the car.

On the/ a more fun note, we’ll be working our way on this thing firstly fixing the top which doesn’t work - and a cool but conservative theme adding some discreet body mods - wheels - lower suspension a wee bit - reseal motor - chip- lights - then auction it off for a local charity of choice of our staff. Any ideas would be appreciated and we’ll be asking a lot of questions. I’ve had 20 911s, a couple Audis and just restored a 73 BMW 2002 which was a blast. This is my first Mercedes other than a 2000 ML 55 I bought new in the day and getting excited about the project and learn more about the marque.

I hope to contribute to the forum but admittedly, I will be asking for more information than offering.

Thanks for reading.

I’ve had both the electrical and convertible top issues you noted.

The electrical issue is likely related to the SOS system and can be alleviated by pulling one of COMMAND fuse under the hood.

The convertible top is likely from low oil and to leaky cylinders. Pull the back cover out from the trunk and the metal pan covering the back of the seats. Fill tank with appropriate oil. I had to replace seals on the lock and now cyclinders to alleviate the leak and allow the system to pressurize appropriately. You can buy the seals and oil for less than $100 https://www.ebay.com/itm/28179131096...mis&media=COPY.

Remember to activate the trunk roller micro switch on the right side during debug, otherwise you’ll only be able to raise and not lower the top.

These are both VERY common issues, so you should have little issue resolving them.

Thanks Andy - I am not sure what you mean about the SOS feature. Is there a fuse in the fuse box that operates the SOS feature and that by replacing it the car will read the battery again. It was running perfectly on Saturday then Monday morning - dead dead - nothing...battery showing nothing and won't take a charge...

Update. I got the car running and leaning the charger on overnight. It appears the fan (fuse 25) won’t shut down which killed the battery so going to trouble shoot the fan relay or one guy on you tube said a bad battery causes the fan to run cables continuously. Will do some checking.
