Ummm....Yeeeaaah....
What the heck is going on here? Anyone else had this problem??? Im thinking things like static electricity from cold air and motion or something like that...My right index finger would greatly appreciate any suggestions.
and usually this happens to many people this time of the year.
It's similiar to walking on carpet and then touching some metal object and
getting 'zapped'.
What you can try and do is to ground yourself prior to closing your car.
You can touch something like maybe the tires or other object.
By doing that, you discharge all the electricity in your body, then
when you touch your car, there won't be any electricity to cause a zap.
There were cases where someone was pumping gas, left the pump on
to get something in the car and sitting on the seat, went back to the
pump and touch the metal part of the pump, created a spark near
where the gas fumes were coming out of the gas tank AND....
WHOOOOOOOSH......KABOOOOOOOOOOM.......
let your imagination do the rest.

Lower Humidity = Dry Air
Dry Air + Wind blowing against your car = Static Electricity
Statically charged car + your finger = ZAP!
Another reason why this is happening more and more is due to the fact that the tires companies are also using different compounds now on the tires that prevents the car from grounding unlike before. There was an artice about this on CNN a few years back.
Of course... you can just burn the car down...
