OSRAM H6W bulbs sucks!!!

Recently my city light bulb burnt out. After doing some search on the web on which H6W to buy, i decided to pick these up.

http://www.ambulbs.com/products/description.php/II=12

After I installed them last night I almost wanted to kill the guy that wrote the product description! Total false advertisement. The lights are yellow as stock.

I know that Josh and Danny both did extensive test on bulbs. Josh has LEDS and Danny has some kind of custom ones. Anyone has other good experiences??

Those bulbs are garbage. This includes the M17s, the Blue Visions, and pretty much any other bulb I have ever tried in the H6W slot. I'm a bulb freak, so i bought so many ... trying to get the perfect hue. I finally ended with LED's. Here is what mines look like:

Headlights (Replaced with HID D2R 7200k Natural Blue)
City Lamps (www.superbrightleds.com) H6W 4-LED Style (White)

No..

im talking about these:

http://www.superbrightleds.com/BA9S6_specs.htm

BA9s-W4 White LED bulb
BA9s Bayonet base bulb with 4 Super White 3mm LEDs
Available for 6 or 12 Volt AC/DC operation
$ 2.98

*note if you get these bulbs, you will need to file off one of the prongs to make them them fit into the benz housings of the H6W. If you don't, you wil break the housing. (Easy Mod)

The 7200k Natural Blue D2R's i bought from SPW Auto Lighting ... I dont remember the website.

I always get stopped by fellow benz owners and they ask me why my lights look like that ... and they love it.

Do i need to attach a resistor inline with the bulb? I remember a few members had to do that to trick the computer to think it's not burned out. Appearantly the LED and a lower resistance than the normal bulb.

Thanks.

My housings are cracked too.... learned the hard way. You wont find any bulbs that will have the prongs off aligned like the OEM city bulbs. All the bulbs I have ever seen had the prongs at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock. Since my housings aren't cracked THAT bad, they will still hold a bulb. Any h6w bulb u get, you will want to use a metal filer and file down one of the prongs so that only one prong is present. You should be able to insert the bulb then.

Malfunction message

Ok I just installed the LEDS. They are dimm. Very dimm. But they are blue.
And the funny thing is that when the egine is off, i don't get the "malfunction lamp" message. But as soon as i turn the key the message pops up. I guess the computer doesn't "scan" the system till the engine is on.

anyone know how to put in that resistor? Do i have cut and splice the wire leading up to the socket? Is there a "adaptor" that fits in the socket i can buy?

Thanks in advance.

Dude!!

You guys MUST file off a prong as I said in earlier posts or you'll ruin your housings! Yes they are bluish, but a very cool blue. Which is why I went and bought 7200k HID bulbs and they match exactly. I would think philips ultinon 6000k should match up too. They are somewhat dim, but then again ... very noticeable at night. The citylamps don't serve any purpose as for lighting... for those who are thinking city lights are for actual lighting of the road. I believe city lights are for European cities, where there is so much street lighting, there is no need for turning on the headlights. Please check the first page for the models... for those who are asking.

Yuanja888 -

I am not sure, as I know I have a bulb that is out. One of the sidemarkers from the front bumper is out. Being too lazy...I didn't really care for it because I have painted side bumper reflectors. I moved the bulbs into the engine bay to use for lighting up the engine bay at night instead. So to tell you the truth, I dont know if i get the malfunction or not, because it already is malfunctioning :P

The Computer checks most of the bulbs on the car, during initial start of the car. Eventhough, you have a bulb in your housings ... the wattage readings are not correct ... the computer is fooled to think a bulb is out. The only way to fix this is to put a resistor in the wiring to trick the computer to thinking the current is correct. I have not bothered on doing this.
