2003 CLK 320
Unhappy My Service Advisor says "get rid of it before the warranty runs out"

My car is in being repaired AGAIN. It's in for the exhaust system again possibly the right catalytic converter the left catalytic converter and all associated exhaust piping was replaced last August along with the entire Headlamp assembly, the Passenger side Headrest wiring, and the entire Shift assembly and a host of other issues. I still love her though.

When I switched to my current service department my new service advisor printed out my service history and was shocked. It's TWO pages! (18 non-maintenance visits). The consistant stream of loaner cars in my driveway IS getting embarrasing. My car just had it's second birthday. He told me that there have been an incredible amount of electrical problems with them and by looking at the list of problems I've had so far it's only going to get worse. There are only 10,000 miles left on my warranty. I told him I was considering getting rid of the car before the warranty expires. He said I should because unless I spend the $3,500-4,000 for an extended warranty I would need a car loan for repairs alone.

I was hoping to stay in a CLK maybe an '04 or '05 so I asked him and another service advisor if most of the problems have been resolved. They said the '04s were worse than the '03s and the '05s are no better.

The style and originality of the car fit me perfectly. What's a CLK lovin' hot mama like me to do?!

You probably got a lemon.

My 2004 CLK320 Coupe is 18 months old and after 40K KM, I have absolutely no problem at all. In fact, I am going in for Service-B soon and I am looking for things to fix.

I have an 03 clk320 and had some of the classic problems,,,,right headlamp assembly replaced 2 times
passenger headrest doesn't always work
sunroof onetouch closing.

In general I love it, the electrical problems are a bit much though.

I will not keep it past warranty. IT is not practical as I am not rich

Yikes...18 pages!

The 04's had a host of non visible changes over the 03's to address problems and the 05's had a really small amount, but it's true they still have their share of issues. Remember MB ranks like 34th out of 37 in reliability/cust satisfaction even in Germany

My lease ends next may an whatever i get will be at least in the top 10 of JD Power #'s.

18 Visits. 18 pages would REALLY be a lemon that sould have been destroyed a long time ago.

If you like in now, I would just purchase an extended warrenty for the car and keep it.

sell it, then...

lease a new one for a term up to the expiration of the warranty period on the new car. why spend another 4gs for break down "insurance"? 4 grand w/b almost 1 yr of lease payments.

2004 with no problems except the damn alignment car doesnt drive straight for nothing!! (fixed once didnt help)
i doubt 2004's were worse then 2003 though.....although as mentioned you should try leasing a new one (there is a deal on them since the 06 is coming soon check out mbusa.com) but try to apply for lemon status

Do you mean get a new CLK on a 4 year lease? If so it sounds like a good idea. However, my car is at 39,655 miles and all Mercedes dealerships have access to my car's service report so I may get screwed financially though.

I had some alignment issues as well. I have a close friend who is the director of the lemon law unit for the State of New Jersey. I'll ask him but I believe he told me before it has to be the same problem over and over and over again.

I have the same feeling about Lexus, 1 more year of lease and very annoying vibration at breaking. A dealer already fixed it once, but it reappears. I thought to buy next CLK, but problems you described a bit scary. Does somebody know how reliable Audi?

older Audi's have had issues, just like MB...but the newer ones are much much better. Go visit www.audiworld.com As far as what I can see, newer models don't have many problems, if any, at all. Older models, such as late 90's to early 00's have had some issues but Audi took care of them and fixed the issues in car's made after that.

FWIW, I've had my A4 since beginning of Sept, 12k miles so far and only a squeeky drivers seat. Loving it so far

Hell, I feel your pain. I am also in NJ and quite frankly I am getting out of Mercedes and back to BMW. And I have a 2005 CLK500!!!!

For all you fellow forum readers, check Consumer Reports current issue shows reliability for the CLK's at the lowest level possible, a black dot!

My problems have been all too numerous and just as an example, they can't fix the incredibly foul smell coming from the AC.....and they've done everything including all the tips on this forum. for gods sake they replaced everything too, no dice! You know its bad when the service advisor tells you the cars are ALWAYS in the shop!

So that's it...gorgeous car but works like you know what!!!

Sorry to hear about your car, but do you really have to write in large purple lettering?

Yes I do. What do you think the font options are there for?

BTW Do you really have to have such a wide photo in your signature that stretches the thread out?

2006 Edition CLK 280 Coupe
Collecting new CLK Thursday 16th June

I'm about to collect my brand new "latest" edition CLK from Bremen, Germany. My god, I hope that I dont have any of these issues you guys have been mentioning. I've paid in cash but I want to keep it for at least a year due to the huge loss I will incur from the moment I start the car. Wish me luck.... pics will be posted upon collection so you can see what I've got!
