MB sells cars with manual transmissions in Europe and Asia, as far as I know. Just in the CLK class, you have manuals in the 200 Kompressor, 280, 220 CDI and 320 CDI. I once drove a C200 Kompressor with the manual 6-speed transmission and it was a delight: soft, short, powerful. I was surprised as I had heard so many complaints about MB's manual transmissions. I don't think they sell them in the US or Canada though.

You wont find this in writing anywhere, but mercedes is affraid that the North American market wont like the standard transmission in most MB cars, and thus, no dealers would stock them, so they decide not to offer it as an option. I say why not let people special order the cars that have available manuals in europe, but im not calling the shots.

i wanted to get an e-class mb with manual transmission but mbna did not offer such a car, so I went with a c-class mb. i believe, in Europe you can buy an e200 kompressor mb with manual transmission.
