Safe to install snow chains?

Guys:

I'm thinking about driving up to the mountains. Do you think it's safe to install snow chains on my car? As you can see, it's lowered.

Regards,

Joe

Call Enterprise they'll pick you up....

Get some kind of AWD like a GMC Envoy or something, instead of spending that money on chains.

Why risk it? You're liklely to destroy your car in a wreck or damage it if a chain comes off. The high risk to your car can be shown, with statistical certainty, to be more expensive than the rental.

If those are the rims you're going to be mounting them on, I think the chains might damage them.

Not safe at all - you could easily scratch the wheels and might also have clearance problems on your fenders (especially loaded with cargo and a couple people). Get a rental!

Don't forget, driving in salt covered roads is very harsh on a vehicle.

Thanks again for the comments gentlemen. I actually went up to Big Bear. I did drive my Benz (without chains) but the road conditions were pretty dry. I did get some looks from a few people (kind of like: What is this guy doing?). There were many STi's and EVO's. Tried to race an EVO from a stop on Big Bear Boulevard but he smoked me. These cars are soooo fast they should be illegal. It's unfair for Ferrari and Porsche owners. Anyway, we haven't gotten much snow in Southern CA yet. I'll continue taking my car up there until the next perfect storm. Enterprise Rent a Car will become my best friend after that...

Regards,

Joe

things with and without wheels
There are snow cables available and they work well as long as you dont spin the wheels too much.Up in the elevations turbocharged cars have an advantage over naturally aspirated cars .
