Angry 2007 CLK550 Oil Leak (Cracked Head)

I have a 2007 CLK550 with less than 5,000 miles and it has been in the shop for the last two weeks for an oil leak. The oil leak is comming from the top of the head on the drivers side and you can see the oil puddling up on top of the head. After the service shop found the leak to be coming from a crack in the head, they had to order a new one from Germany. The new head came in two days ago and they will have to remove my old head, and get this, send it to a local machine shop to remove all of the valves etc. and install them on the new head. MB didn't even send a complete head assembly to replace the defective one. Has anyone else had this problem or have heard of anyone who may have had this issue?

They did send a complete head assembly. When I used to rebuild Porsche engines, new heads didn't include valves, springs, rockers, valve cover, or cam. Aside from the seats and guides a head doesn't come with anything else.

The work to be done doesn't really surprise me, but your dealer's inability to do it is a bit spooky. I get my own car serviced by MB/Manhattan which is an MB owned shop and I know they can handle this work themselves. I think its kind of weird that they can't do it themselves.

Then again, everyone outsources SOME work. Even MB/Manhattan. I scraped the wheels on my on CLK550 and they sent them to a another shop. The work was perfect, so I have no complaints.

Whatever you do, don't go to MB of Greenwhich CT. The service is the world's worst. We've had the SL55 in the shop for the past couple of months, still can't get the rattles out or fix the supercharger and power steering/suspension. The CLK is also a mess. The E has electrical issues once a month. And the way they treat you is horrible.

Sales department ain't much better either...

But how do you guys like the new CLK550's? It would be great if one of you could do a little write-up on it, I'd love to see how it compares to the outgoing CLK500 and CLK55AMG. Thanks.

Thats strange..MOST decent MB Dealers WILL have a Valve seat cutting set
and lapping tools...Lots of Techs have there own set ...Most of the techs that do heavy Duty work..Engines/trans..Not a normal Line tech

I HOPE the Machine shop does a decent job on the valve seats...Not to thin..
and centered..a Three angle job would be nice also !

MBUSA brought several cars to Willow Springs Raceway last month. The new 550 is much faster than the outgoing 500. The two drive trains aren't even close. The '07 550 makes more power throughout the entire rev range. I can't compare it to the CLK55 because it's been two years since I've driven one on the big track at Willow.

MBUSA also brought a CLK63. Even as a convertible, the new 63 is substantially faster than the last CLK55 I drove. With more power and much better braking, compared to the CLK55, the CLK63 redefines fast.
