Question 2004 CLK 500: iPod?

Just bought a used 2004 CLK 500 Cabriolet. It did not come with the COMAND manual so I am trying to figure out things the slow way. I have a particular question about the audio system: it appears that there is an option for an auxilary audio source AUX: has anybody succesfully hooked up an iPod to the car stereo? Any ideas?

Thanks a bunch!

THe AUX in the glovebox is ONLY there if you have COMMAND navigation. Without COMMAND, the options are slim.

Do search on AUX input. I opted to tap into the tape section of my standard head unit. Others have bypassed their CD changer with one of the available interfaces.

Edit - after re-reading the inital post, I see that you do have COMMAND but not the manual. And as above, you should have a small mini audio jack in your glovebox. Plug in your ipod, set the COMMAND to the AUX input and you're all set.

Cool ipod integration - 2004 CLK500 Cabriolet, no command

I just bought the same car, but mine does not have the COMMAND system. But it does have a CD changer. I also want to integrate my iPOD (Nano), but I want to be able to use the steering wheel controls and would prefer it charged while in the car.

Can anyone tell me what options exist?

Thank you in advance!

Mike

You might want to check out either the Rockford Fosgate 3Sixty or the JL Audio Cleansweep systems. They're designed to integrate aftermarket sound systems with picky OEM setups.

The JL Audio Cleansweep system will allow you to integrate your Ipod with the steering wheel controls. It's reasonably priced.

iPOD integration, thanks. and more q's

First off, thanks for the response in my ipod question. I also found something called the Dension ice link gateway 500 that is supposed to work and retain steering wheel controls. Also lets you keep the cd-changer. Has anyone tried this solution?

Also wondering if I can just swap out the radio in the 2004, with one for the 2005 CLK?

No, the wiring harness is completely different. If I remember correctly it's a complete overhaul on the electrical system.

Correct.

Another "Simple" option is what I did. I found instructions on this forum for tapping into the tape section of the standard non-Command MB head unit. Now, when I play my MP3 player, I select "Tape" on the head unit and my MP3 player plays perfectly through the factory stereo with volume controls on the steering wheel.

How did you make it work? Any soldering involved?

Does the AUX input always work by switching to tape or are there seperate AUX inputs for tape VS. something else? What radio do you have? I have the Audio-30.

Yes, soldering is involved. It's relatively easy but you should have some soldering experience before attemping this as it is delicate soldering in this case.

Check out this thread. I followed the instructions and it worked perfectly:

It can be done so that the tape will still work when your mp3 player is not connected.

Check out the thread that I posted above this one. It provides very detailed instructions for doing it.
