I had a 2001 CLK 430:

The cLK 500 +'s and -'s

+:

More torque down low

Better leg room in back seats

Styling is better (front), but the back is debateable

Quiter

Slightly faster (1111 miles now)

Can not wait to go to drag strip

-:

Mileage is much worse. I never ever thought I would make this comment. Best I can get steady state 60 mph is about 24.5 mpg, aound town try circa 14 mpg.

Lighting in center console does not match main instruments panel

Does not have motorized access to back seats

Mileage should improve after engine is fully broken in. Are you happy you switched from the 208?

Thanks for the feedback.

Personally I like the 5 liter engine the B pillarless design the seat belt retractors the front and rear end and the interior, I just don't care for the side view. I have not driven the car yet and that's why I'm looking for non bias feedback for those who own or have driven the 209/500.

As a previous 01' CLK 320 owner (208), I am very impressed with the power of my CLK 500. This car will really scoot down the road. The ride is considerably smoother and the car is much quieter overall. The sound system still sucks. I am still getting used to the rear end of the car but I like it more and more every day. I live in a college town and I get at least 2 or 3 verbal compliments every day in addition to the countless stares. Younger people love this car and I think you will too. My only real gripe is the gas mileage. In a mix of city and highway driving I am averaging about 16 mpg.
