2008 CLK550 fuel economy

Had my CLK550 convertible for about a month now. Fairly happy with it, but there is one thing that I find not mentioned and I'm a bit unsatisfied about. Yes, I know you don't buy this car for the gas milage, but why won't they publish the actual numbers?

Mercedes-Benz lists the fuel economy at average 15 MPG and 21 MPG Highway. Why are they listing the average and highway and not listing the city, to me it seems to hope to fool people into thinking the average is the city MPG. Is MBZ afraid to list the real city MPG, seems so?

Here's what I'm getting with my almost all city driving and so it's my average since I don't need to go on the highway to go to work every day.
12 MPG!

Can't imagine what the GL550 gets in the city (my guess would be 9 or 10 MPG)...

I remember a review of the S55, and the guy said "it will pass everything except the gas station."

Maybe the combined number is the 2008 method of displaying the mpg? I know my wife's Prius (2007) was rated at 60 city and 52 highway, and the '08 model is rated much lower. We get about 42 to 48 mpg in that.

I don't think so, looking further may sites are listing the average MPG as the City, looks like Mercedes-Benz has done just what I thought and having listed the average and the Highway, confused reviewers and magazines so that the average is listed as the City and that is hopefully goes unnoticed.

Mercedes site:
http://www.mbusa.com/models/features...A&class=08_CLK

Some examples:
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/calcu...0%20(Cabriolet)
http://www.newcars.org/trims/default...=&r=&s=&t=&u=#

Looks like may of these sites have copied eachother and assumed that the city is 15 MPG and therefore assumed the average was 17 MPG.

dont feel cheated, just know the next time you buy a car, EVERYONE lies. those numbers are based on perfect driving conditions where the car accelerates gradually to 60mph, gets on a 50 mile road with no other cars, and no acceleration/deceleration, the temp is right, and all the stars line up. My clk350 says 27 highway, BEST I've ever seen was 23.5. (could of been 22.5 but i dont really remember

Mercedes
I get roughly 12 mpg in the city, as well. But on the highway I've gotten 23 mpg, better than advertised. The available power is well worth the trade off on fuel efficiency.

Why are my "many"s coming out as "may"s in my previous post? Maybe my keyboard?

Anyway, my complaint really isn't the mileage, it's that Mercedes is misleading the public with it's numbers which has transfered to the published reviews...

You can't expect brute power to the tune of 385 bhp and expect gas mileage to boot!

You should have bought the clk350

Um, you'd be incorrect with that comment. My C5 Vettes were 5.7 litre V-8's making 350 and 405 Horespower respectively and they got 24-26 city and 32 Highway MPG's... Other than aerodynamics and maybe a little weight difference, I don't see why CLK's can't/don't get better mileage out of these engines... If Chevrolet Engineers can do it, MB Engineers should too...
