75HP Performance Chip

Just wondering if anyone has tried one of these. I find it hard to believe, but if its true, I don't want to miss out. "GUARANTEED" is a big word to ignor.

Please post your experiences, thoughts, opinions, and concerns... and if you have any FACTS, I would love to hear those too!

It's a scam. An ecu upgrade from renntech and barbus is 1000+ and only brings it ~40hp.

Lol, I was thinking about the 550 but was half off. It could be more, but then reliabilty would an issue. It all depends on the user and tuner.

Okay, so I read some of the feedback, and I guess that 75HP is an overstatement, by like 70hp, from what I've read. Also, it turns out to be a 50 cent Radio Shack resistor, not a chip.

But they claim it's "GUARANTEED!" That's a pretty big statement to make. Where are the Lawyers at? Isn't there a law that prevents people from making false claims like this?

If not;
Listen up people! I have a chip that will guarantee a 200hp and 50mpg increase, the second Tuesday of every week, every other Leap Year.
MBWorld members get 90% off, a steal at $3999.99!

Any takers?

Okay, I almost fell for the scam... what other "B.S." is out there that I should watch out for? I know my way around a car pretty well, but I don't know much about all of the aftermarket bolt-ons or tweaks. And of course, I'm always looking for a good deal. I would appreciate some help, or at least a heads up on what's out there, or at least, what NOT to buy.

Thanks!

as mark already stated. you're car is naturally aspirated, no supercharger or turbocharger. you're not going to get any real gains from a chip. however, some chips do offer more throttle response, or take off your speed limiter.

How do I know if my car has a speed limiter? What is it limited at? How do I remove it?

I haven't had a chance to REALLY open it up, yet. I've only had it up to about 121mph, but never tried for any more. I was amazed at how easily it got there!! I love my Benz!!!

120 is more than i've done lol. all cars are limited to a certain speed. should be 130. honestly, dont buy that ebay chip. search the forums, there are a couple of decent brands that offer chips from 300-1k. probally wont gain much, but dont take a risk on a $20 chip.

Depends on the model. As I recall, the CLK350 is limited to 130 or 135 and the bigger engines to 155. I think that has as much to do with the tires as anything else. My CLK350's tires are not V rated. The 500, or is it 550?, are.
My old NSX had, I think, W rated (or better) tires and could do 160+, although I never got it over 140.

I dunno, even if its only 5hp, for only $15? I believe Its a resistor that fools the ECU to think the engine is cooler, therefore runs richer at large throttle openings. Many years ago....I did this to my Miata, Trans am, and VW..my buddies too. Its an old trick for a couple extra ponies.

i agree that 15 bucks is cheap. I feel that its not worth risking the potential damage to your car. Maybe he's reputable? I dont really know, but I wouldnt do it.

If it could cause any damage, then I won't do it. I don't know how reputable the seller is... Tons of comments, a lot of positive regarding shipping, and a few negative regarding the product itself. Still looking for more live feedback.

How well did it work when you tried it? Did you have any problems? Was there a noticable difference?
