2002 CLK 320 purchase?
Hey guys,
I have en opportunity to trade in a gas guzzler SUV for a 2002 CLK 320. My only fear is reliability considering it is a used vehicle. Is there any reliability concerns with this engine and vehicle? it is a peach with only 35k miles on it, but I'm worried about potential electrical and computer issues with this model year.
How many miles can I get out of this car if I baby it? Is it a practical commuter car?
Thanks!

I don't know much about the 320s, but I did look at some 01 & 02 430s that were in great shape, even with over 100k miles.
If you want feedback on an 02 CLK, try this other forum:

The 02 is the last year of the W208 so it is pretty reliable... the problems are the new W209 03 and 04 MY; stay away from those unless you have a extended warranty from the dealer.
The 02 has the 5 speed automatic transmission which needs the oil changed every 25K miles, not at 100K miles!!!
That's pretty low mileage... is it in Cherry shape?
Good Luck

2002 CLK 320 - Black Opal
Almost ready to Sign, but what the...
Whoa - Are you guys aware of the multitudes of CLK owners complaining that their CLK's are lemons?? Is there any truth to these complaints?
After reading a few (negative) web sites, I am leery about buying the 2002 CLK 320. Was MB quality really that bad before 05'?
This article is making me reconsider:
http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortu...1665/index.htm
Should I go into this with the understanding that MB had a great deal of quality issues among these model years?
I see consistent complaints about the following:
Quick Tire Wear
Front end Engine squeals
Electrical problems with gauges
Electrical problems with shifter/tranny
Sunrool squeal
Seat Squeaking
Window problems... The list goes on...
I'm completely blown away. I need somebody to either put my mind at ease or give me realistic expectations about owning a CLK with a 2002 MY. When I test drove this car, it was a cherry. But I did notice a problem with the gauges not displaying the correct images. The Gear indicator gauge and the temp gauges were both distorted and scheduled to be replaced before it was sold. I though that was odd for a car with 35k miles, but now that I'm reading about the issues - It is starting to add up.
What’s the deal?
