ESP ON or OFF

I've been playing around with my ESP, but haven't decided which option I like best. I feel like I am losing so much power with it ON. But when its OFF, the tires bark pulling in and out of parking spots.

What do you guys think? When do you drive with the ESP ON or OFF?

i usually keep it on in the city...and only turn it off when i need to pass someone at a standstill... and off when i wanna play around with smoke and breathe the smell of rubber.

ESP always ON.

I always am screwing around here and there trying to feel the acceleration and stuff, and a couple times I had the ESP off and accidentally almost got into a "situation." Mercedes does such a good job with implementing the ESP anyway that it is almost always a neutral or good thing.

I shut ESP off for driving on winding roads and curving freeway ramps so that the tail can slide without the computer interfering.

I turn it off at the track and usually leave it on for the street. However, at least on my 2007 CLK 350, it is never really off! Like the automatic transmission, it does what it wants to do when it thinks you are being an idiot, even if you know exactly what you are trying to do.

What turning it off does is give you a lot more lea-way before it takes over. Since I don't push too hard on the street, I just leave it on there.

When its on, if I get on it to make a low speed pass (30-40mph), I notice that is hangs up in the lower (passing) gear, running my RPMs way up, then does a hard shift. Maybe since I usually drive it hard, it seems to think that I always want it to react that way. Is that my ESP or something else?

There is a chip on your transmission doing that. It can be reset. I don't have the details in front of me but if I recall correctly you turn the key to on, but not start, hold the gas to the floor for five seconds and turn the key to off. Leave the key in the ignition and the chip resets in two minutes.

Note, that may not be the exact procedure. It has been discussed before in this forum.

Yeah, I've tried that a couple of times, but then I have to pick up my daughter, so it goes back to grandma shifting.

I can't find the link, but that's right. But, take your foot off the pedal once the key is off, and leave the key in the ignition for 2 or 5 minutes.
