I'm doing a CLK radio project myself. On the doors, there are 6.5" component set in the front (the tweeter is 1") and 6.5" speaker in the back. There is also a speaker in the center of the dash and a subwoofer (optional item) in the rear glass area (driver side). The problem is, you can't just change out your speakers. The Bose system for example, uses 2ohm speakers (you have to find 2ohm stable speakers) and a microphone to adjust volume levels (new speakers will cause havoc on this system, audio quality will suffer). The best course is to do the entire system, head unit, speakers, and amps.

You have to replace everything, I wish there was a better way. I already have the a head unit (touch screen, DVD, Navigation), two amps (door speakers, sub-amp), door speakers, subwoofer, face plate, harnesses, etc. All I really need to do is to install (I even bought the Mercedes service manual for the CLK for reference). But I plan to do this in a couple months, I want to plan out everything before I rip everything apart.

you can just replace the head unit without doing everything else rite? just when u start messing with speakers the amps everything has to go rite?

Yes, you can just do the head unit. But you have to find a radio that can handle the 2 ohm load from the Bose speakers (most manufacturers recommend a minimum of 4 ohms for their head units, you'll likely either blow the head unit amp or the Bose speakers). Another complication is you have to find a way to power the door speakers (the harness that connects the speakers is located in the trunk, hooked up to the external amp).
