Ha, Ha! Not a problem Brian. The C pillar is the pillar that has the rear window. A picture of the area (via the link I posted above):
The black wire on the right of the arrow is what you want.

Today I attempted to reuse the factory powered antenna, below is a link to the information I posted on another thread:
https://mbworld.org/forums/4955345-post14.html
Success! I removed the aftermarket antenna and reconnected the factory antenna. After testing the radio and verifying that reception was terrible, I tapped into the black wire on the c-pillar and BOOM! Crystal clear radio reception using the factory powered radio antenna!
Edit (added the pics from the other thread):
1. The wiring harness from the back of the radio, (A5) is 12V switched when the radio is turned on.
2. Pin Legend, note (A5) is 12V switched when the radio is on.
3. If you don't want to enable it through the radio harness, you can tap your antenna 12V switch via the black cable going into the antenna amplifier, located on the driver side C pillar.
4. The wire diagram for the connector for picture 3 (X1/22), the antenna amplifier is A2/71.

Great Information!!!
Thanks for all the great advice. I just bought my CLK500 Convertible and will be looking to rip & replace the sound components this Spring. I have the Bose system so should be fun.
One question, I want to replace the Bose Sub; what size replacement do I need (I believe it is a 10") and where is it located?
Thanks
Jim

Front Speakers - http://www.crutchfield.com/p_107DB65...io-db6501.html
Rear Speakers - http://www.crutchfield.com/p_107DB65...dio-db651.html
Still working on the sub - still trying to finfd out the correct size, 8" or 10" for teh bose enclosure
Will post pics of the process once it warms up here in Maryland.

MB logo on aftermarket radio
Great looking upgrade! I am about to replace the entire system in my 2004 CLK 500 and wanted to know how you got the MB logo screen to come up on the new head unit?
I am going with the Pioneer AVH-X3500BHS head unit.
Thanks
Jim

I want to replace the HU in my 04 CLK 320. I have never done such a thing before in any car so please bare with me.
What is a simple way for me to replace my HU with an aftermarket HU? I don't want to have to replace the speakers.
Is this possible? I keep reading about PAC OEM-2. If I have this, will it allow me to keep using my original speakers? Also, what is the difference between PAC OEM-2 and PAC SOEM-4? Can I use either in my car?
I don't need the steering wheel controls, but if it is possible, what is the cheapest way to retain my steering wheel controls?
I've read many threads. But the threads are very old. Are there parts that make this installation easy now a days? Or is the old method the only method in doing this install?
I would really appreciate it if someone could help me.
Thanks in advance!

Hello, what if I wanted to use the existing stock speakers? Is there a wiring harness available? Thanks (I have a 2005 CLK320)

I bought my doubledin unit from sonic electronix. Scosche MZ2340B / MZ2340 was the model I bought. I have an 03 CLK320. The audio used to be the bose audio 10 with tape deck. I think they have other models on their site now too.

I know that this is an old thread but it's fantastic source of information. I just purchased a 2001 CLK 55 and want to change HU, amp and speakers. I've gone to a few places and they say the cannot do the install. I live in SF bay area. Do you have any shops that you would recommend?
Thanks

Hey thanks!
This car is going to end up in my 2nd home in Kirkland. I may have to wait until I drive it up. I appreciate the recommendation. Were they able to connect with the steering wheel controls and dash?

I need to change my HU and speakers in my 04CLK500.
The SWI-CAN, SWI-JACK, and OEM2 are all converter boxes. Everything except the HU is a converter of some sort. The input side of the SWI-CAN2 plugs into the Mercedes-Benz factory wiring harness. The output side of the SWI-CAN2 plugs into the SWI-JACK. The output side of the PAC SWI-JACK plugs into the Alpine head unit. The audio output from my Alpine head unit plugs into the OEM2. The output of the OEM2 plugs into the into the Mercedes-Benz factory wiring harness through a wiring harness adapter (VW?). I also used a Motorola male to Volk female antenna adapter. Crutchfield supplied instructions, but if you’ve never changed a head unit before, you may want to invite a friend over to help. Offer to buy him dinner at Tommy Woks in Sausalito
