My new 19" rims rubbing issues on my W209 CLK

Hi All - I need your expertise. I bought 19" rims - fronts: 19 x 8.5 on 235/35/19 and backs: 19 x 9.5 on 265/30/19. I've installed them myself, bought the bolts which the shop recommended short bolts for the fronts and long bolts for the backs. When I test drove it, it made a clicking sound coming from the back wheels. Has anyone encountered this issue or know what's happening? I'm really clueless. Thanks in advance, Jay.

Dude, clicking sound is due to the bolts is too long. Why is shop recommended short bolts for the fronts and long bolts for the backs? The bolts lenghts should all be the same front and back unless you use spacers on the back.

I think you need shorter bolts since the bolts you are using is too long that they are touching the parking brake disc making the clicking sound. That's what I had and after changing the shorter bolt, the problem was solved.

Thanks guys for the quick replies. Your suggestions sounds right. The reason given "because the back wheels are wider so you need longer bolts". I'm gonna get the shorter ones tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks again.

If the clicking doesn't sound to loud, it might just be rubbing by like a mm against the parking brake. You can always do what I did, grind like 4 mm off the rear bolts, problem solved

Just because the long bolt didn't hit anything therefore it for the front. Not true. It didn't hit anything because the E-brake only on the back. You should be using the same rear bolt right now also for the front.

Lets hope it didnt damage your e-brake components. I had the same issue with discount tire after rim install and after they changed the bolts to the shorts like I previously mentioned before they even started the install of the new rims...... I made discount tire promise me that they'd repair the damage if any occoured. Make sure you engage your e-brake and dis-engange to make sure all is well.

An easy way to check if the bolts are the right lenght is turn over the wheel and measure the thread, MB reccomend just under 1" of thread sticking out the wheel once the bolt is seated. A tip is that on my little finger it's about an inch to the first knuckle from the tip. Good for a quick check.

take the wheel off the car and poke one of the lug nuts through it should only stick out .75 of an inch or a little more the clicking noise is the bolts hitting the e-brake inside the hub

Normally, I'm sure someone would poke fun at someone for reviving a stale thread... BUT I think this is a good choice. Lots of people have been starting new threads and asking what length of bolts to go for the their wheel/spacer set up... and I think a lot of it is trial and error.

This is the best tip for proper length. Worked perfect for me. Mike
