Question Checking engine oil level and oil intervals.

My new to me '06 has a '05 owners manual and following the instrument cluster instructions in the 05 manual I do not get the display for confirming or measuring engine oil level. Don't see a dipstick on the engine or mention of one in the manual. How do I check oil level?

How much oil does it hold on a change and how long or many miles do you run it? Does the computer tell us when to change it?

For mid Atlantic region temp = 0 - +5 lowest to 95+ highest what weight is best overall? Manual has a big spread and lots of choices.

Do you recommend a transmission flush / oil replacement? The manual seems to require it early in the life. Mine is reddish brown at 57k and does not smell burnt.

Thanks

To check engine oil level:
Oil Level and Reset FSS

Usually it's good to change oil every 3,000 miles and the computer won't tell you unless it's service A or B.

Coin,

Thanks for reply. Some real good info on that link. The oil check routine does not work on my 350. Maybe it is different than the 500. I'm going to the dealer today so will ask them and see what they know.

Regarding the 3000 mile change interval. I have went farther with synthetic and this car looks like it holds 8.5 qts whicjh is a lot. So I'm thinking 5000 or 7500.

Are there any oil related issues with this engine, such as sludging or other reason to be at 3000 miles? Just wondering.

Frankly, I have learned over the years that following the manufacturer's guidelines on oil changes, will give you excellent results. Mobil-1 oil, as recommended by MB, is THE oil as far as I'm concerned. I change mine at the recommended 13,000 and my CPO 350 cab will easily hit 100,000 before the warranty runs out. Right now, I'm approaching 50,000 and it runs like the day I drove it off the lot.

You can toss your cash out the window, changing at 3000mi if it makes you feel comfortable. Doing so, certainly won't hurt anything! I went through that phase for many of my younger years and threw a lot of my own cash out the window!!!

13,000 seems a bit long to me. I like going about 7 to 8,000 miles per oil change. Certainley not every 3,000 on synthetic though.

The engine on my 2006 CLK 350 has a dipstick to check the oil level. The dashboard will also tell you if the oil is running low, it says something like: "check oil level on your next refueling" or something.
Changing synthetic oil every 3000 miles would be a waste, that was for the old days when the oil quality was not as good. I follw the manufacturer's recommendations, they are likely to know what is good for their engines.

Yes, I found the dipstick in the rear of the engine. For some reason I thought it was transmission fluid. I'm told there is no dipstick for the transmission.

Thanks for help.

BTW if you are looking to get really long mileage out of the engine, like 250k or more, then more frequent changes do help. I'm going to do a 10k interval and get the oil analyzed to see if it is still within parameters after 10 k. A lot does depend on how it is driven and what the environment is.

The oil check routine works for all 06 models. You must be doing something wrong.

If you use oil to M-B spec 229.5 you can run the oil for 30,000 km (18k miles) provided you use a fleece filter.

I own a 2006 350 CLK that has a dipstick. When it displayed the service interval I was able to reset it. I can't check the oil electronically. On the home screen and turning to position 1 and pressing reset 3 times nothing comes up on the screen. I think since it has the dipstick that's the only way to check. I did get a warning to check the oil.
