Unhappy 320 Ticking noise

I noticed recently this ticking noise from the engine that can also be felt with my hand on the shifter. It is slightly noticeable, usually when there is not much outside traffic noise and audio turned off but is distressful. Anyone else notice this? Is this normal? It appears and disappears randomly. On the off topic, I also noticed the xenons are higher on the right than the left. Is this on purpose to avoid hitting the driver in front or the opposing lanes? I thought it might be on purpose just because I saw the same on other cars, 740 for example while driving.

Thanks!!!

There is some sort of airpump that makes a ticking sound that comes and goes, next time you hear it when parked pop the hood and you should be able to locate the noise and this little pump, hopefully this is what you're hearing and it is quite normal.

I did just that and I think you are right. Hmm, how annoying. Anyways to quiet it down? I wonder if I install the pulley kit would it make any difference?

I went to the dealer and they said the ticking noise is common with all engines after 2002 and that it is due to the valves and is normal. Is this just a bunch of BS??? I would really like to fix this if possible, I thought maybe it is the airpump as per RJC or maybe pulley noise or engine mount? I can't really pinpoint the noise well. Only that is sometimes noticeable during idle, disappears or is drowned out when accelerating.

the noise you speak about is an air pulse valve(emissions related) . this is located on the drivers side fender area. yes it is loud, it actually sounds like a rod knocking, but it is normal. the only way i see to dampen the sound is to isolate the valve better from the body and to isolate the lines from the body to the throttle body where it is hooked into. i will try to work on a fix and let you know.

ok if you look to the right side of your engine bay, you should see a valve that has two black looking lines going to it. if you remove the bracket from the body and simply cut a piece of foam. iused a piece from an electricla outlet box, and cut it to the shape of the bracket. i then placed it under the bracket between the frame and bracket and the noise is now completely gone. it amazes me that mb couldnt even yake the time to use a .02 piece of foam to isolate the noise. oh well it works great and im glad i did it. i will post pics later if needed.
