anybody raced E92 M3 with their CLK550?

Glad the MB owners I know in real life aren't like a few of you on the interwebs..

It has been discussed numerous times on this thread. I just cant see it happening unless the 4 idiots in the m3 are shifting at 6500 rpms lOl. I mean the 550s have punch but an m3 in the right gear shifting correctly should have no problem making minced meat of a clk550. Just my honest opinion.

FWIW I also have to see it to believe it.
Also all the new e92 members had reasonable posts in here except for one who sounds like a real dick. A little bit of an overreaction based on the actual original post.
I test drove an e92 and a c63 last august and if I was babyless I'd go with the M3 - it's a much angrier car from a pure driving standpoint. But I'd probbaly get the C63 so I can throw a babyseat in the back.

This was a very entertaining 30 minutes of my life. I read everything here and will just comment on what I remember:
1. The E92 M3 is faster on the track than a C63, and this has been proven in mags and Top Gear, who someone referenced. In fact, it also beat a 4 door Audi RS4, which ALSO beat the C63 AMG, if I remember correctly.
2. C63's come in 450 and 480bhp variants. (480 being the 2009 PP packages)
3. A C6 Vette is very closely matched to E92 M3's, seen them head to head myself.
4. My dad OWNS a German CLK500 (American 550). I know exactly what it can and can't do. I steal it when he goes to bed.
5. The higher revving your engine, the better top speed it will have. Think of old muscle cars: 425 bhp, 7,132,541 ft/lbs of torque, and a top speed of 110-130 mph. If that. While a slightly modded Honda B18 engine will go the far side of 150. High horsepower and high revs are the key to fast top end acceleration, NOT big displacement alone.
6. My favorite Benz in the whole wide world right now is a CLK 63, so I'm not being biased. I'm just being a realist.
7. I have coined a Goddess called Pistonette, who I use to blame all totally weird drag related incidents to. Think of this: My old 240bhp E30 Touring beat a late model E500 at the top end. Many such incidents happen, and it can be the result of many things. Car was cold, A/C on or off, literally a plethora of things that add up to make for really weird results.
8. My opinion, then? Dude, don't try it again, because the M3 is up the C63's *** in a drag, which is almost 100 horses ahead of you. I guess if you install some bolt ons you'd take it, but you're not stock anymore, now are you? If you really won, just walk away. And you would have avoided all this by changing your topic statement waaay back in page 1. You should have written: "Hey guys, I drag raced an E92 the other day and won. I know this shouldn't have happened, but now I'm curious. Anyone have an M3 around so we can give it a friendly shot?" This adds to your credibility, speaks well of your attitude, and generally leaves a more believable response simply because you're admitting it shouldn't have happened. Anyways, all this was my opinion, no one jump down my neck, be kind and respond nicely.

Ok here we go:
I was surprised myself so were the M3 Drivers!
I raced 3 coupes and 1 convertible. All 2008 E92. Beat them all 1 to 2 cars easy.
No point lying or showing off.
We did multiple runs with the same result. All rolling start. Car is totally stock.
The only reason I posted this is just to find out if other 550 are this fast.
I also raced a convertible 911, i don't remember what model it was, but its was the newest shaped , looked '09
He took off, but by 100mph i was a car in front of him.
As I said the only car i could not take was a 400HP 3300 lbs 6 speed Corvette with mods.
Out of 3 runs from 40 to 110 he got my once by 1/2 car other times he miss-shifted or some excuse. Wwe were even once and once 1/2 behind me.
Since my runs were consistent and he passed me once its safe to say he is a little faster, and much louder )

I can second his claim i have ran multiple times on a roll against a E92 m3 and beat them, we have a lot more TQ, from stand still diff story we need 305 tires then from the digg we can have a small chance.
I toped my car the 1st night i got it at 155 engine was still pulling but the damn delimiter grrr.
you forgot to count clks torque over M3's torque there buddy.

An E92 M3 is not THAT much faster than the old E46 M3, or the stock 335i.. There's videos on Youtube of the E92 getting beat by a 335i, stock vs stock, although that's probably a driver's mistake. But a chipped 335i can EEEEASILY keep up with an E92 M3. And a stock 135i too..
Stock 135i beats M3

Modded 335i keeps up with M3
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrGx7b_1juY
I think M3 vs CLK550 would be close, because of the 550's torque (391), but the M3 MIGHT win if they had equally skilled drivers. On a track, M3 would win hands down, I dont think anyone doubts that.. But these are all opinions, I would love to see a video of that race.

Lets review the facts..
2009 CLK550
5.5L V8
382 HP @ 6,000 RPM
391 FT @ 2,800 RPM
Weight = 3,720 pounds (automatic)
2010 BMW M3 Coupe
4.0L V8
414 HP @ 8,300 RPM
295 FT @ 3,900 RPM
Weight = 3,704 pounds (manual)
Even on paper thats pretty darn close to me.. It could go either way. The 16 pounds weight difference is really nothing. Thats like my left nut right there lol.. And the -32 hp and +96 lb-ft torque would probably benefit the MB..

e92 m3's are amazing rides, but they make great test cars, how about a car to drive every single day? well they only put 295 pounds of tourque, they having a high revving f1 style v8. Not exactly a car that has everyday power, that's why a clk can beat it in certain situations, on a track the m3 is the best regular car you can buy, but when you need to drive a car everyday in rush hour traffic >25000 miles a year? i'll take the reliable MB v-8

AND I have mods on my C55, maybe you should race me one day, if you can beat me, then you'll have a chance.

Those of you though that consistently say the M3 would be faster around a track, well, you are probably right given the same driver. But on the track it is more about the driver, and the track is really where 'anything' can happen. It is not uncommon to see great drivers in rust buckets running circles around exotics at the track.

It is pretty hard to gauge speed just by seat of the pants. My CLK550 pulls very hard and without actually racing it side by side with the C63 I really can't tell which one is faster (maybe I have no skills?), and I drive both of them on a daily basis.

Well i can tell you that the C63 will smoke you (you don't have to have skills to know that). Maybe you meant the C55?

What I meant is that I also have a C63, and acceleration feels just about the same from the inside; that just by driving the cars its hard to tell which one is faster.
