Will 2003 E55k engine fit Clk500 need for swapping
Whatsup guys this might have been discussed before and said it can be done and it will take long but i have a 2003 Clk500 and my engine might possibly be done for, and my transmission already is coming to the end of its life. I know that to do an engine swap the ecu and wireharness has to be changed because if it will work i rather spend 1-2k more and get a 55k motor.. because we both have a base m113 motor if i get the 55k motor with everything complete inculding, ECU, wireharnes, all pulleys and pumps will it be plug and play ? or i need something else ? 
if all is good i better start saving up for one of those.

Yea i looked on ebay they have Clk500 engines for about 3k-4k and some 55k engines for about 5k i even saw a few engine and transmission complete for 7k im just going by what i see. The question is, is it plug and play and its just a matter of swapping it out and having the proper ecu and my wireharness currently should be fine or is there more stuff im gonna need even if its not 1-2k more let it be 2-3k more but if its as simple as that id rather wait a little bit more and just do it, i didnt mean that it will cost me 2k to do the swap i just meant the price difference on a used engine on ebay between the 500 motor and 55k motor. pacboy22, I dont think its plug n play and I know that you can afford the 55k engine but in order to make it work you probably pay twice (or maybe more than that) as much as the 55k engine. How about the CLK55 n/a motor ?

Whatsup Andy, i see what your saying, you know i was thinking of the N/A 55 engine i mean it should deff be enough power for me because im gonna do headers, im gonna remove my secondary cats and do the ecu tune i already have the handling/braking to help me with the extra power. Its just that for some reason in all my search i saw more 500 engines and 55k engines that a standard NA 55 engine thats why i was looking in the 55k. So to my understanding the NA engine is straight plug and play no need for new wire harness and ecu just swap out motors? and i know theres no point of going back in time but i got a really good deal on an 01-02 clk55 engine will our cars accept that plug and play or its also gonna cost me an arm and a leg for it ?

I deff dont have any crazy money to spend and its all not gonna be done in a weeks time but im planning on using my income tax money and some of my money that im saving up and have it done little by little. Im looking to get engine alone for about 4-5k, if its engine and tranny about 7k im not familiar with what labor would cost on swapping out an engine ??..but first i need it to be confirmed that a NA 55 engine will be straight plug and play without any further modification if my current ecu and wireharness will work, just drop it in and go. Secondly if anybody knows if the 01-02 clk55 na engine will work the same way because if it does i can get that engine and im sure labor for the price of the 03 + na 55 engine alone because im gonna end up doing headers secondary cat delete and ecu tune so the difference shouldnt be that big the 02 clk has i believe 349hp and 376 tq where the 03 55 has 362 horses and 391 tq?.. the reason why i plan to do this is because after my accident my engine took alot of abuse and im gonna probably buy a cheap car or lease a cheap car with my girl and leave my car as a weekend car or project car and work on it little by little theres already no purpose in selling my car because of all the money and time thats been invested in it.

Yea im gonna need a tranny anyways because i had the coolant leak issue i already replaced the radiator and did the flush and the tranny shifted fine for about a week and back to the same problem, if i can find the tranny along with the motor that would be perfect. So basically the 55 na motor is a direct plug and play right ? no new ecu required or new wire harness? just put in the motor and the current ecu will adapt or will i need to reflash it because down the line once i do the headers and secondary cat delete i plan on tuning the ecu anyways. Thanks

The thing is i have yet to find a 55 NA motor from a clk55 w209 body shape, but the 55k i found, and also in 02 the 55 na motor was the same on clk,s,cl, e, where as the 03+ was only on clk, slk, and c which are harder to come by also yes the price that i can prob get on an 02 55 w208 motor w/installation will run me prob the same price as the w209 55 NA without installation, i think it all depends on timing and availability. So we confirmed the w208 55 motor is a plug and play with our ecu and wireharness, that makes life much easier also can i use my current transmission until its very close to the end of its life and then change it 55 tranny with the stronger plates. if your not in a rush why not wait until you can find the W209 55 motor N/A ?Ok I could be wrong but I dont think the W208 motor is made better fitment (or is it even fit ?) for your CLK500...I have never seen any ppls here that put W208 motor into the W209 body...hopefully someone that have better knowledge can chime in this matter.

Your right Andy i dont know about fitment either and i dont know anybody that downgraded to a lower year so it might be kinda wack i dont want to cut corners and mess anything up i think since im not in a big rush i might just wait and see if i can find a w209 na motor, unless somebody chimes in and says it really isnt a problem and its plug and play and if i get a killer deal then i might maybe maybe do it, but other then that ill search all over the internet for that motor. Thanks

If I find one I'll let you know bro and you know that you gona have to spend "at least" $10K here right ? what really kill you is the labor. The 03-04 CLK55 is going from $15K to $18K now and is it worth it if you doing this kind of swap ? Its all up to you man...just my 2 cents here.

Perfect thanks, i think it should be in the ballpark of 10k but the labor part shouldnt kill me that much because i have somebody that would prob be interested in this .. and i kinda like the idea of a Clk on drugs and step by step hooking up kinda fun and besides i plan on keeping the car for a while so much time and money was already put into it might as well and then when im done having my fun ill give it to my younger bros if i feel like they are responsible enough and deserve a car like that lol... thanks guys for all the help!

btw. i dont mean to hijack the thread but most of you guys have the clk 500 engine currently. knock on wood but would any of those engines fit into the clk 320 engine bay?
i dont think the chassis is different...just the springs, motor mounts, etc.
