I have H&R lowering springs. Was trying to install myself, back then I used to install my own suspension on the 350Z and Supra..., but it seems like the front suspension needs a special tool to compress the springs ?? Anyone done it themself before ? Any suggestion or info would help.

I believe you need a special compression tool. Sorry couldn't be more help

you do need the MB strut compressor tool and a hat removal maybe. I let my mechanic did all that for $150 back then.

Dont need a special tool to compress, any good spring compressor will do. But to remove the top nut I believe you are referring to does require a tool. It costs about $23 to purchase from MB. Or take it to a spring shop to do it. I had my fronts replaced when I got them off the car for $75 and this was in Alaska. Gl.

Dont even think get one from Autozone or soemthing like that...Its not safety with MB springs....you can do that with the honda springs but not MB. I know exactly what you thinking.

Not really true.

A spring compressor is a spring compressor, yea there are different types. . and a spring is a spring. the H&R for are cars are nothing special.
I got one from pepboys. did the job just fine. It looks like a HUGE screw like 14 inches long with "U" shaped shackles to lock on to the spring, then just put a ratchet on it and you can start compressing.

as far as a special tool to take the cap of the strut, From what I remember, it was a 1/4 inch hex tool, available at any hardware store. after the spring is compressed just put the hex bit in at the top of the strut and unscrew the top cover holding the spring.

My cousin and I have the exact same Cars. both 04, CLK 500 Coupes. We did both car front and rear in about 5 hours. 4 hours for the 1st car, and 1 for the sencond car. It's all about the learning curve.

As far as the setup goes. it pretty easy, if you have done spring before your already ahead of the game. with my setup I can pull .91g on a 300ft skidpad.

it's a Y pipe i put in the exhaust after the resonator, before the muffler.
it splits the exhaust. the open part of the Y has an electric motor with a butterfly valve monted on a flange.

so when i want i hit a switch and my car goes from stock, to muffler bypass . it's the best of both worlds for me, either loud or back to stock at the flick of a switch.

I think I had ADVAN Yoko tires at that time. I missed the great handling from that MR-S, it was dyno at 320+ hp with and car only weight 1900 lbs...

I am looking into get the Kleemann super charge for this CLK, too many stock cars out there are fast. Gotta make sure Merc can keep up with those Bimmer or Domestic out there ^_^

I already got the quote from the shop in Houston and it will be about $11k installed. Which is not bad at all. When I mod the MR-S, I spent over $30k alone on just aftermarket parts. For Mercedes $9000 on Kleemann super charger is pretty decent price.

The Kleemann Supercharger would be fantastic! It would be interesting to see the before and after dyno numbers of the supercharger on the 5.0L M113 engine. Although I'm not sure how long the transmission would hold up, there are options for that too

I did it a few years ago. it was around 200 for the cutout and the electric flange. then i spent around 130 for the digital switch for the cutout. and as far as putting it in the car. my buddies and I did that, I have a friend with a lift, and I know how to weld.

so about $375 in the end.
