first time posting pic of my car, H&R springs lowered and new wheels

Just finished dropping the front and still need to work on the rear, will post more pic after the rear is done. The front took about 2 hours without any air compressor tool. Just used the cheap $40 Autozone spring compressor to do the job. Thanks again for the advice and help from the forum ;P

(front lowered with H&R springs & Koni shocks)

(Before the dropped, about 3 fingers gap on the front)

Looks good. I wish I could've done this myself so I could save $400 every time I have someone else does the job for me.

You don't need the car lift to do the job. If you have experience with Nissan, Honda or Toyota. Then you can do the suspension here. Last time I dropped the car was on my Nissan 350Z. It's not too much different. Once you figure out how to take off the front upper mount of the shocks then the rest is easy. I think the CLK is really simple to take the shocks / springs off the car compare to many other car. Lots of space to work with too.

First front suspension took me prob. over 1 & half hour, the second one less than 30 mins...., I looked at the rear suspension, it seems really easy. I will prob. do it when the weather is cleared up tomorrow.

And yes, my car is pewter color

I was surprise you were able to jack the car on that little side... doesn't it comes with plastic beneath the car? I tried jacking mine and I couldn't find any good spots... my previous cars civic does not have any plastic beneath it! LOL... how much are those wheels? looks tight! and would you mind telling me how does the fog light works? it lights up by itself when i try moving the wheels left to right... sorry its my first luxury car.. funny thing is that it took me few days to open the hood too... its not like Japanese cars that everything is straight forward...

lastly... good job on dropping it yourself.. i will try to do it to mine too if I figure it out!

The rear are very easy. If you do it at home, depending on how high you can jack up your car off the ground. If it high enough, you can just remove the control arm bolt from the drive shaft spindle knuckle. If it not high enough, the control arm will not drop down far enough for you to remove the springs. I preffered to remove the inner control arm bolts (the bolt that hold the control arm to the middle of the chassis) because it allow the control arm to fully lower to the ground more. Btw, use the hydrolic jack and place it under the control arm to lower the control arm when you remove the bolts. It very very easy job. As you already know, the front strut is very easy like any other car struts. The only difficult on the Clk were finding the right tool to remove the plate locking "ring". I hand made the tool for that.

Dropped the rear about a week ago, I added the 5mm wheel spacer. Rear wheels are more flush to the fendor ;P I ordered the new rear spring pads. I bought the 13mm and 17mm one, will try them both and see which I like more. The front wheel fendor gap seem kinda big still.

You think you could fit 10mm spacer in the back?

Okay, you changed the springs and struts, I'm guessing from your sig that you put the bigger rims with rubber bands for tires. :-) The car looks great but I'm wondering how does it ride? When I did similar work on my BMW it looked great and handled great but the ride was pretty rough. Bumps were harsh and eventually noisy from things being jarred loose. It was a lot of fun at first but after a while it got tiresome. Too race car. I'm wondering what yours is like.

I'm also wondering what your purpose is in doing the suspension mods. Are you tracking the car?

Steve

I'm also wondering what your purpose is in doing the suspension mods. Are you tracking the car? Plus I need to find the time to install my Kleemann super charger, it's been sitting here in my living room.

BTW, I only take my CLK out when the weather is nice, I ususally drive my S550 for work daily. So it's fun to have something sporty on the weekend. ^^

Steve
The ride is totally fine, I would say it's pretty smooth for the setting I have. As for the purpose of the suspension... ? hmm I'd say I just like to mod the car for the look and handling. I don't care for track or racing, it's just something to have when I wanna take a sharp coner
