Deck spoiler install.

Did a "search" and wasn't able to find the info needed for a CF deck spoiler install I am going to do in the morning.

Does anyone know the 3M tape or number that works the best? Thickness?

Also I have heard of a mixture of water and dish soap or alcohol that allows some open time to adjust the position of the spoiler. Is this advised or not?

Seems to be several different ways to do it. Anyone have the best way? Mike

Well that didn't go well. Thing got stuck before we could get it in final position. After several practices runs before pulling the red tape of death off, it was a perfect fit on the trial runs. Everything marked with reference points the whole stretch.

It is off enough to p*ss me off. about an 1/8" from making contact on about 3" from the corner, my neighbors end. Mine came out perfect. Go figure. Any suggestions on how to get it back off will be greatly appreciated. I have heard the 3m adhesive remover works pretty well. Thoughts, Mike

You got it my friend. Trunk lip spoiler. "Sure", he said. "we can do this no problem." I should have followed my first instinct and left it to the pros. M

I am going to a guy that I know in the body shop business Friday and have him take a look. He said over the phone it can be removed. I will let all know what he has to say or does.

Thought you might enjoy a pic. I snapped at the dealer (on a C63) to take your mind off such matters.

Buy some 45 lbs. fishing line and use it to cut through the glue/tape then clean up the mess with goo-gone. You can buy the goo-gone at the Autoparts.

Thanks Klinh for the link. I got everything taken care of this morning. Took it over to a friend of mine that's the manager at a body shop.

They had a tool that looked like a giant razorblade and slice it off after masking the area around the spoiler as to not scratch or damage anything. Took like....1 minute

The tape on the spoiler they used an air tool with what amounts to an eraser wheel and removed the old tape.

Use an adhesive promoter on the spoiler prior to adding the new tape. Cleaned the deck with Prepsol.

They worked with small tabs of the tapes membrane sticking out, aligned everything for placement and worked from one side pulling the tape membrane out with no pressure on the spoiler.

A prefect fit now. I will post up some pictures here shortly.

For those of you that had no idea how to get one off, now you do. Take it to the pro.

Final cost....

2 cases of Pepsi

What a deal. M

man, I am so glad this thread didn't exist before I stuck my JBSpeed trunk lip spoiler on! I would've been afraid to try! As it was, I just went out to my steep hill of a driveway on a damp, windy afternoon, lined it up and eyeballed it a bit, then peeled the tape and went for it. Looks fine to me!

I believe they are like the OEM not the BS. I bought mine off eBay and the fitment is not perfect. I would not recommend it!

i guess, in the end, buy the OEM one. OEM one is around 600 dollars not that bad. BS one is like 2k something.
