2006 CLK500 rattles/shakes when idle or stop sign?

Hey does anybody have this issue? I have ignored it for the reason that it is a v8 engine... but it still bothers me...

Here is the situation... "driving like crazy" 80mph on 35mph or 25mph on or less traffic streets... and then when I stop at stop sign or when I park and idles... i can feel the body or engine or maybe just my mind shaking or rattles...

Is this ok? Thanks in advance!

Check the engine mounts...what's your mileage on the car? mine does this occasionally where i can feel the car "shiver" through the steering wheel...I think once you change the mounts, they should absorb the vibration coming from the engine. hope this helps...

Hi jho012345

The car now has 59000 and is about to get service b... how much does it cost? lol... do they usually change those wear and tear parts?

I think you are right... it might be the engine mounts... Thanks for the reply...

If you're car is under warranty, they will change it. If not they will charge you and arm and a leg. Search the forums for Service B, i was doing this research my self earlier. Its really nothing major asides from an oil change and if you havent change your filters, you might have to change them. It could be also fluid flushes so you have to look in your manual to see when is the last time you flushed your fluids and changed your filters.

Check the motor mounts like previously stated. If they are leaking fuild, then it is time to change them.

Is the motor mount easy to find? Do I need to uncover something to see if they are leaking? I searched around, most people either complains about their problem or others telling them it's caused by the motor mounts. lol, i didn't find pictures.

Hey guys,

Sorry I've been out of town... They will run you about 200 each (http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...layCatalogid=0) and you do typically change them in pairs so you're looking at $400 for just parts. I would recommend buying the parts from the dealer & find an independt shop to do it you you. I dont believe it should run you more then $1000.
The engine mounts sit right on top of the front sub frame.... if they look like they have oil coming out of the bottom then they most likely are leaking. I would say that you could wait a little longer to change them unless the car shivers quite a bit. Thanks

Yeah my prices could be more expensive because those are retail prices from the local MB dealer around my area. I would highly suggest going with OEM parts. GL!

Thanks for the picture man, I actually found it or at least figured it out since it looks like a big bun sitting under the engine. When i saw them, my engine was very hot. They are not broken, but very hot and soft. There is no leak on them, they kinda feel like fresh steam buns, very soft and plushy. Both of them had a tan ish color, i guess that's due to aging. So I think mine are still good for a while.

BTW, where did you engine go? i hope you didn't take out the engine just to show us the motor mounts. LOL

hahaha no that's a picture of my E55 when I had the engine being fixed. Just figured I'd show you guys since I had a pic! Yeah they will look like a faded yellowish color when they age. As long as they are still soft and can absorb the vibrations from the engine, I think you should be good to go.

Hey dyno,

Do you need to create an account to see parts from parts.com? I tried searching the OEM front engine mounts and I can't find it...

No you don't need an account. But if you do create one you could send them messages whenever you need a part. Just provide them your VIN.

Click on this link then in the left hand search box type "mounts" and they should come up

Hey guys..

I just got a quote for replacing Front L&R mounts and Rear ones too... for $570 for 3hrs of labor work...

You think its worth it? I only asked one shop... should I ask for more shop? I only saw 2 shops here in my area that does Luxury cars... and "NO" I am not going to the MB dealer here! LOL....

I told the guy that I needed 2 quotes... them providing the mounts and me providing the mounts.. I think he was smart to give me a little cheap quote for the mounts! LOL... he said they charge $80 each for front mounts and $40 for rear mounts... The rest is going to be for the labor.. so that is about $100/per hour labor...

So the break down is:

$300 = for 3hrs labor
$160 = for front mounts
$80 = for rear mounts

If I have a lift I would do the 3hrs labor myself! LOL.... Let me know what you guys think about it... Thanks in advance!

I had a oil leak on the valve covers and had the valve cover gaskets replaced. When took back my car, I had the same symptoms you stated. It ended up being a vacuum leak on a hose coming from the driver side valve cover.

No problem Andy! The engine was shaking/vibrating when my car was idling or when I was waiting at a stop light/sign. It felt like the engine was going to shut off (and it did once). But at every other scenario, like accelerating or cruising; no problems.
