Ignitor melted
Ignitor melted
Recently my Passenger side xenon started flickering and would eventually go off, so I decided to check it out and discovered my igniter melted.

The igniter also melted part of the bulb.

I have several questions
1) How much does an ignitor cost at the dealership?
2) Should I just get an aftermarket HID kit?
3) If I do get an aftermarket HID kit, would I lose the auto-level function.
Thanks!

Yeah, I can't find any in my city. I went to several dealerships like audi, bmw and mercedes. None of them sell it. Except Mercedes, but it comes with the housing which cost $1500.

I have not encountered this in all the units I have come across, but since the voltage is very high in these I'm going to suggest that the ignitor was not fully seated and this caused an arc which melted both the bulb and the plastic on the ignitor. This was common on the early xenon units in some cars. Its one of the reasons MB switched the bulb in later cars to the type which has the ignitor pack on the bulb itself.
