Flapping sound in driver's footwell???

Does anyone know if there's a air flap that may break in the driver's footwell?
Upon start up there's a consistent flapping sound about every few seconds and then it goes away. It's actually more like a "thunk" and does it only one time then does it again. For some reason it eventually stops.
Unlike the clicking most folks refer to this is no a click and seems to be coming from right under the steering column.
Thanks!

search the forums under " stepper motor"

its usually the control arm from the stepper motor that fails...which results in a constant thunk every few seconds.....

Supafly,
Thanks.
I've checked out the stepper motor threads but thought this might be a little different because most refer to the stepper motor in the center of the dash.
This sound seems to be coming directly from the driver's footwell.

Yeah, theres several of them controlling all the HVAC... theres one in the dash; one under drivers footwell, and one in the passenger footwell.

If you're willing to tear your car apart...its an easy yet time consuming fix...

The dealer is 1200 usd. aprox

Supafly, I've seen the DIY for the center vent but do you know of any DIY for the driver's footwell? I'm guessing it'll be much easier to get to than the center vent. Or at least I'm hoping it is.
Thanks!
