help me diagnose my car problem

Hi,

So I've had some issues with my car over the past couples months and I'm not sure what it could be because it is intermittent.

Basically, sometimes when I'm coming to a stop, I kind of feel my car shaking (kind of like it's about to stall), then after about 5 seconds, it seems to get back in the correct gear and everything is fine. During this process, I'm not able to step on the gas to accelerate and I need to wait it out.

Also, just over the weekend, I was trying to make a 3 point turn. After I made the first turn, somewhere between putting it from drive to reverse, the engine shut off and I had to restart the car again.

Please help

i believe thats in the back of the engine. so pop open your hood and i would just the engine cover off and check maf, and put it back on securely. and see if the problem persists

Awesome. Thanks for your help guys - I'll get it looked at.

When I dropped by Mercedes service to tell them my problem before, they thought it might have something to do with my engine mounts going? - But I didn't want to pay the pricy service fee just for them to actually diagnose it to be certain.

I actually had it changed instead of cleaning it. But I have taken off the engine cover several times and yes it had to snap it. You will hear a click or two.

Chances are it's the MAF

I never actually had my car stall but my C200 did the same shudder you describe when coming to a stop. I did some searching and spoke to a few tech's and they suggested that I do an ECU reset because they thought it might be an adaptive trans issue.

Long story short, reset the ECU and the car ran (and still does, wife drives it now) like a top. Certainly might be different for you but it's an easy thing to try.

Get a scanner and scan for any fault code. Typically a faulty MAF does not cause the engine to shut off, but a faulty CPS (camshaft position sensor) does. I think it's a $60 part. Search this forum for the DIY procedure -- very easy DIY, if that's indeed the problem.
