oem bumper vs. fiberglass; any comments thx!

Thinking about replacing my oem bumper with a set of fiberglass knockoffs. Is it worth it, cuz I know fiberglass cracks, while oem rarely does. Thanks.

Btw, I was thinking clk63 conv. (non-Black Label) bumper to replace my non-amg oem. The bumper looks tight but cons are fiberglass, and the rest of the car is non-amg body style.

If not, probably just put a carbon fiber lip on the oems.

Thanks.

Well oem is some sort of plastic (not fiberglass) my shop told me. Fiberglass aftermarkets tend to crack he said, which I know to be true. I was thinking about replacing my oem front bumper with a clk63 conv. knock off. It looks tight but I am thinking about the quality of the fiberglass material.

So comes down to new fiberglass bumper vs. carbon fiber lip on the oem bumper I have on now.

Oh and would it look too nose heavy cuz my clk is non amg variant.

Thanks.

Why not just go with used OEM?

Used oem costs about 500 for clk55 vs. non-oem clk63c which is 400 new; only reason Im looking into the clk63c is the double gills on the side.

It's believed that the aftermarket Fiberglass bumpers will have a problem with fitment. I have heard this from my body guy also. That doesn't mean it's impossible. The choice is yours. Nobody can really tell you what problems if any you will have. It's up to you if you want to take the risk.

just for you to know not many of our members here have the aftermarket bumpers. I'm not saying it is bad for doing that but you just have to gamble.

Yeah I know, there is member who has oem clk63c bumper and it looks tight, I think he lives in HK or some part of Asia. Anyways, I think Im going with CF lip and lip wing on the back. That'll cure my desires for a new car for a while I guess...haha. Thanks to all.

i would just push for used ebay bumpers they are about 300 or so shipped. and fitment will be perfect. and if you can wait, there will a couple good ones in great condition too.

You would still have to buy the grilles and fogs wherever you get the bumper, no?

no not for the aftermarket bumper the original poster was talking about, but Im just saying 300 is maybe for a used bumper itself and half the cost of what you need

The aftermarket CLK63 bumper that's on ebay charges you $400 for the bumper, $120 for shipping, $275 for the grilles, and $245 for the fogs.
