Exhaust Sounclips
I finally had the chance to pick up the car. Right now I have no muffler, resonator, or 2nd cats. I could tell you there is definitely a drone. It sounds good on the sound clips but gets annoying after a while. I should be making the trip to the exhaust shop soon and see about some mufflers.
If I wasn't going with the whole dual exhaust, I could see this setup working with just a resonator/muffler in the middle of the car. It would sound just right. Here is one clip from inside and another from outside.

Nope, no tips. I have no tips or a muffler. I had to take it off cuz it didn't fit after switching the spare wheel well. I will probably go with 2 Magnaflow mufflers, and quad tips. I wasn't really pushing the pedal too much, I live in a quite neighborhood.

I am still confused on the role a resonator plays?!!
Is it there to quite the car down only? Does it have anything to do with how throaty the sound becomes?
Reason i am asking is i might get one for myself and see what it will be like.
If i do though it will be an exotic speed one

Nothing in the market sounds like them. They just don't make an exhaust for Mercedes yet....

Which is why i dont think im going to put the resonators back in. im just going to do what that slk55 did, magnaflow x-pipe with no muffler

that's not true, i was just describing the role of oem resonators. just like the role of an oem muffler is to quiet down the car, the role of an aftermarket muffler could be to enhance the sound.

it's hard to tell with exhaust sounds.everyone has a different preference as to what sounds good.its all trail and error as i see it.every engine sounds different

Yea I agree. It's really hard to gauge an exhaust by the video. The only real way is trial and error. In person the drone in ny car is unbearable, but in the bids it doesn't sound that bad.

A resonator takes a lot of the higher pitched 'pings' out and smooths the sound - it absolutely lowers the volume somewhat but also 'refines' the sound. Also, the placement of the resonator will actually make a difference in the sound - the closer to the motor the 'throatier/mellower' (making some good words up here) the sound. Magnaflow mufflers are essentially resonators in the sense that they have no baffles, just a perforated inner tube surrounded by sound deadening material. Other resonators like the 'glass pack' designs have dimple baffles in them that distrub the airflow (and the packing material burns out, Mag wont due to the stainless mesh) - Magnaflow does not and therefore wont restrict airflow/movement.
On almost every car I have owned for the past 10 years I had a Magnaflow round muffler (just because there wasn't room for an oval) in place of the factory resonator, then another Magnaflow muffler or two (depending on single or dual exhaust) in the back. The system remains straight through/high flow but has excellent sound control.
*edit* An X-pipe also helps refine the sound and balances the pressures of the two banks, aiding in scavenging - every true dual set up should have an x-pipe.

I guess I might have to put an X-pipe. Can't wait to get this done already. Here are some pics I snapped this morning.
