Replace Halogen with Bi Xenon

Hi,

Can I change my Halogen lighthousing and replace them with Bi Xenon lighthousing?

Will the dash computer show any errors?
Is it a straight swap or do I need something else as well?

Thank you for your help!

Yes you can, and it is a straight swap. The lights won't work until the computer is programmed to 'xenon=present'. You would have to visit a dealer or preferably an independent shop.

Ok, will the mercedes dealer do this for me even though the car has halogen as standard?

I will call the local independent shop tomorrow to get a quote.

Thanks for the help!

It would probably be cheaper going to an Indie.

Any shop who has access to a Star Diagnostics system could do it for you.
Dealer shouldn't charge you more than $60.

Where did you buy your bixenons and what year are they from?

Also, if there are any extra harness plug-ins on the back of the bi-xenon housing make sure you seal them up somehow so water won't get in there. I put a set that was wired for active cornering in mine and only plugged in the one harness-got it reset- and it's all good to go.

I didn't think of that. Mine also came with an extra harness plug-in.

I just used black duct tape and trimmed it to look all pretty haha. The set I bought had two harnesses on one side and three on the other housing. They were from a C55 I think? Got the entire set w/ everything included for $885 shipped. I <3 ebay.

And I'm not even positive there would be any ill effects from some water splashing in there because there shouldn't be any power going to those circuits but if I'm dropping almost $1k on some lights I'm not going to take any chances. Digging the look of the car btw dyno. I have some 19's I'm in the process of painting satin black and eibach's going on the cab in the next couple of weeks. There is no telling what I have in store for this car.

That's a very good point. I see you have the mod ball rolling, post up some pics when you get the stuff installed. There is certainly a wealth of information here to guide you along.

Sorry for the thread jack mikata.

Ok, 60$ sounds fair
I haven't bought them yet, there is an auction on ebay for them.
They are brand new original (Hella lights) but I don't know what year they are from.
Will the year matter or can I just plug them in visit the dealer shop to program them?

Thank you for your help!

As long as they are from a W209 they should be ok. Yep, just plug the only one that fits in and seal off the rest and they should work with the car turned off. If the car is on, however, they will flicker(hence getting the ECU set to Xenon=Present). I haven't seen any retrofitted headlight washers, I never really saw the point of them.

Nope, nothing has to be programmed with a regular HID kit.

I'm just worried about glare and scattering of the light without the projector lens...

That would be your biggest worry. It's kind of annoying to the other drivers.

Yeah I'll probably just stick with what I have now...they're bright enough...cause I know I hate it when people don't aim their headlights right when they're lifted or lowered heavily...

How do your bulbs get along with the retainers? I had them on my old car and they started to melt it...

I use DDM tuning 50W for the headlight and DDM tuning 35W for the fogs.

There is glare yes but it doesn't bother oncoming traffic because i aimed them equally low
