lol tell me about it. I'm sure we've all gone through some trial and error on mods and lost a good amount of money because of it, but for now the sound is great so that is what matters most- needed that v8 to realize some of its anger when i first bought it.
the pic is showing for me but heres the pic again for those of you that couldn't see it.

They come up every so often in the classifieds. I listed some part numbers in this thread.

No mufflers, just the original pair of bubble resonators and a Magnaflow x-pipe. I haven't felt any power loss.

this is a must have for me. how much problem did your guy have getting the exhaust around the spare? Do you have diy for bump cutout? great job, that car sounds nucking fasty!

The main problem my guy had was not so much with the piping as it was with the tips. Any good exhaust shop should be able to get the piping to fit around the well, but the problem my guy was having was that the exhaust tips were too long and there was just barely enough room to weld the piping onto the tips because the tire well was in the way. He eventually got it to work, though.
As far as the cutout goes, yeah I did it myself, no write-up though, sorry lol. I went out and bought a dremel and just traced the cutout and then started cutting it off. It's fairly easy as long as you make sure you get your measurements right.

2008 clk 550 amg pkg and 96 SS impala
quik question
After talking about it for several months, I have finally completed my custom quad exhaust conversion on my 07 CLK550.
What I did was put back the stock bubble resonators that I had previously removed, install a Magnaflow X-Pipe, and then from there out to quad tips. There is no muffler, so it produces a fairly loud and deep exhaust note, with a nice growl from the V8.
The labor was a bit more than I expected in terms of cost, but it came out nearly perfect. I'm not sure if I am totally satisfied with the tips, they still don't look OEM to me, for some reason. However, they did paint most of the piping black to give it a clean look.
As you can see, it's snowing right now, so I can't really take it out and throttle down, so you'll all have to wait for a better exhaust clip.
Quad AMG Tips - $200
Magnaflow X-Pipe (10791) - $70
DIY Bumper Cutout - Free
Labor + Custom Piping - $530
Total Job Cost: $800
