I didn't want to ruin his surprise but he's converting his car to run on kentucky bourbon whiskey. It's going to be cheaper than a liter of 93 octane in the next 5 years

Just stopping by to say hi and that I finally have some goodies in port (under clearance) that will go towards my final CLK project. I bought these items LAST FEBRUARY (2012) and as usual, everything went **** up and was delayed. I've been off the MB grid for a few months traveling 25-28 days a month outside Dubai and working on my other project which should be done at the end of the month, I'll post a link to the build thread.

So, I'm looking forward to getting back and seeing how all of you have come along on your projects as well as meeting all the new members.

Stay safe guys

Good to hear from you, Kev. I was afraid you were in a Saudi prison or something for attempting to kill your mechanic!

Thanks for the welcome back, apparently I've been away so long I've forgotten how to multi-quote...

Puff - I'm really trying to keep a straight face while saying it

Jeff - Mostly Mid East, North Africa, Europe & South East Asia. There is one part of my car that just doesn't feel finished, hope you like the idea...

Andy - Ye of little faith!

Rod - Believe me I've been close. After the excruciating 6 or 7 month audio install I've now been waiting for 14 months for items I bought in the US that a friend had supposed to have shipped for me (no, not Wes, I can come out and say it now, he screwed me out of parts and disappeared, very disappointed in the lad), that was supposed to take 3 months tops (sea freight). I've also been working on another project (my H3), I planned everything out, did 99% of the work myself without any delays, the only two things I needed the shop to do are now over 2 months late. Typical eh?

I've got lots of catching up to do, see you all around soon - I hope...

Thank you, it's been a fun project (for the most part), one more major project planned for it this summer, I really need to get some updated pictures posted as well.

I've always been a fan of the SL55, yours is quite stunning, I just read through your thread. It would be great to meet up at one of the F1 tracks (either Abu Dhabi or Bahrain) one day and run the cars together.

kev, how come you didnt get the carbon fiber front fenders? I always look at them on ebay when ever im on the hunt for new things to buy.
PS. i made a decision on the W209 im on the hunt for a 550 BC. my union will only finance cars that are no more than 5 years old. so my dealer is looking for a white 550 =]

Just re-ran through this build thread while on holiday this am. What a great comprehensive build thread!

Reminded me to order #4 rear spring pads.

My car has been directly inspired by this project.

Thx for the tasty ideas.

Not something I'm interested in, I went with the CF hood because its functional (vented) and didn't paint it because I like the contrast on the white car. The fenders aren't going to offer enough weight savings and the hassle of painting them and getting them to fit decently isn't something that interests me.

I like CF but I try to keep it tasteful, to each their own. Good luck in your search for the 550.

That goes both ways Jeff, your trials and tribulations with the SC helped me out tremendously. The #4 pads should work out fine for you, I ended up going with a set of custom rear springs and #1 pads in the end, I'm picky as hell you know

I just got back from a 2 week vacation myself, of that I spend 7 days crossing the Atlantic, no emails/phone calls/work whatsoever;

Now I'm just finishing up a final project on the H3 then it's time to hit the CLK again (if my bloody parts every get cleared through customs....)

My guess is that it was an early morning photo. When we cruise, I love to get up by 7am and walk around the ship. Other than a few crew members doing their jobs, I usually have things to myself.

Louie - after looking in the bridge at all the gadgets & gizmos to operate that thing, I wouldn't even try to drive it! The QM2 is truly a magnificent vessel.

Rod - yep, it was early but not too early, about 8am. The upper deck and outdoor pool was empty because it was unbelievably windy that morning, by mid-afternoon the wind calmed down and the pool was reopened & full. Everyday was different crossing the Atlantic (Southampton UK to NYC), fantastic voyage, I made plenty of use of the cigar lounge and the Scotch stock.

OooooO. fair enough. i found 2 09 clk550. one has the renntech tune and CF airbox, i really like that one and im trying to work out a price. lets see.

also the reason i ask was, once i saw a c55 with a whole CF front, fenders hood bumper, looked nice but the fenders and bumper kinda killed it.

I would love a CF trunk with a built in BS lip, somethign like the BMW guys CLS trunk.
