Man, in my opinion, Clarkson is such a jerk, he can't even drive. Yes, TopGear is a great show, its funny, but when it comes to reviews and tests, i don't know, its too commercial for me. Clarkson is just too subjective, for example he just hates every 911, just because he is scared and cannot really drive one with RWD and engine in the back and he critizes everything about it. But when it comes to show, its amazing to watch.
For objectivity, i really like Chris Harris's tests, but he is sooo boring. Tiff Needell and Jason Plato are great from Top Gear, both are excellent drivers. Tim Schrick from Germany also, great guy, David Suitcliffe form Autocar is also good. Most of these shows are European, so maybe you don't have them in US.![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)

From my pure theoretical couch-car-enthusiast’s point of view, I would take Aston Martin, then R8. Don’t throw a stone at me but to my taste Mazerati is just plain ugly inside and out, and I wouldn’t ever buy this car no matter how good it drives. If I would be on a market for Italian exotic, I would go with Lamborghini Gallardo or Ferarri 599. Bentley with all the superb craftsmanship and presence is too heavy and snooty. But again, this is me.
At the end of the day, it is all about taste and other mostly personal criteria. My own list would look like this (may jump all over the place price point wise):
Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG (my favorite car period!)
Aston Martin DB9
Lamborghini Gallardo
Audi R8
Porsche 911 Turbo
On the other note, surely Clarkson is subjective and opinionated but that is what makes Top Gear so entertaining. And whatever they say about his personality (or his clear bias towards British cars, such as Aston Martin and Land Rover), it is clear that he has vast experience driving pretty much anything and thus, his opinion does not come across as just plain big headed arrogance. Also, Nando87 brought a good point too: the other two characters (Richard Hammond and James May) are good at keeping balance. Lastly, living here in the US, I don’t think we have any of the other shows (or presenters) you mentioned so, I have almost nothing to compare.
I like this guy’s presentation though - Gordon Robertson is a bit too technical but still, very educational and entertaining to watch:

Haha! Nice choices as well but I was going with models that could be used as daily drivers - your choices are more track-centric. I am still not sure about 458 Italia - this new design is still growing on me. Black is definitely one of the top choices as well but again, not too practical.

What will the car be used for? daily driver, track, weekend?
The R8 is the most fun to drive out of the 4, and also the least expensive to maintain.
The aston martin is nice, but not worth the headaches. I have 3 friends who bought Astons and none of them still have them. They were fun cars but constantly in the dealer getting serviced.
While there are more Bentleys on the road, they have the best quality interior of the 4 in your list. Very comfortable and lots of power.
The new Maserati, I have a buddy who bought one, and he has put about 10k miles on it and no issues yet. The exhaust also sounds real nice on the new gran turismos. But based on previous Maseratis, I don't think it'll be long before he has issues pop up.
My vote goes for the R8, then Bentley, then Maserati, and last Aston (due to numerous people with bad experiences owning them).

Totally agree with what you say about the exhaust note on the Massy - there are a ton of them here and they sound very sexy, just not a great looking car IMO. One day I'll have an Aston with a personalized plate 00KEVIN.

Of the 4 you selected below, the Bentley is right out (a 12 cylinder "sporting" car with 100% of the engine ahead of the front axle? What a joke!). The Audi is next, but only because it's not the V10 car, and the V8 car (which I drove, and liked better than the 10) will always be the R8 with panties. The Maserati has Italian quality built right into it - so that's out. Your only option here is the Aston: it's fast, it's exclusive, it's got some Ford DNA, so it should be more reliable than the Maserati and about 90% as solid as the Audi (at least), and it's not a neutered version of a faster car - it is the best of the V8s, you know?
The answer seems obvious: Mercedes SLS.![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)

It is never the cost of a thing that kills you. It is the upkeep. I would look at repair costs and main. on each of these vehicles.

Maserati gearbox is crap (according to 2 race drivers I know, not me). If you're an old guy go with the Bentley. If you're only middle aged, the Aston by a country mile.

I'd go with a used gallardo or sls. The R8 V8 is a completely fake supercar, it's only 1-2 seconds faster than a e92 m3 @ nürburgring (wtf)

The Audi is the best car for picking up girls who don't know about cars. With 100k to play with, I'd probably go CLS or SL63.

Niiice!
In all seriousness, if you are going to go get a Bentley, get yourself a proper 6.75 L V8 car, not the pimped-out Volkswagen. Same can be said of the Audi/Gallardo.

Believe me, my brother has owned a lamborghini diablo sv, and the audi engineered lamborghinis are god! For me, the point of having a car is driving it, not watching it. With the preaudi era lamborghinis, you will spend more time repairing than driving

Don't misunderstand - if you MUST have a Lambo, get a VW Lambo, for sure ... I just don't think any Lambo is really worth owning, and certainly not worth doing a trackday in, or something. I'd have the R8 over the Lambo, but I'd do an AMG or even a new Corvette over either one.

Aston Martin is my personal favorite out of those choices...
But, If I was going to spend $100k on a car... It's would be fast...not luxurious... Three characters... ZR1 638hp and very low maintenance cost
