No, but check the sockets to make sure they are not corroded. Also, i have found that replacing all of the bulbs in both tail lights can solve this problem. It has to do with the way the rear SAM works to detect bulb outages via resistance.

2006 CLK500
2006 CLK 500 South Florida here. I was getting "right front parking light out" message on dash. Checked bulb and was OK, then reinserted. Then bulb worked but got a "substitute light on" message. After a closer inspection found the insulation on both the power and ground crumbling off causing a intermittent short. Maybe 16 years in the South Florida is too much to ask of the MB wire insulation but my 2004 Lincoln town car is still going strong. Just sayin'.
