lol, soon. I'm not sure which hood exactly, but it will be CF. Not sure if I want to leave it CF or paint it to match the car. Stone Carbon has one with just the vents and no louvers. I'm thinking of going with that one. Also the CF fender, but those will definitely be color match. These plans are for after the engine swap though.

nice! I think a hooded vent would be the finishing touch to make the front end look mean. I saw a silver 350z with fenders that he painted black. It came out pretty nice with the silver car. Ill pm you a pic when I upload it on my comp

Whats this active headlight feature? If i swap the new xenon to my 07 CLK will i get the active headlight? If not i might just go the old route

I haven't seen anyone keep features when installing xenons so I would say the biggest difference between pre-facelift and facelift is the look.

active headlights are headlights that turn with the car and no they wont work. The headlights also wont go down then level out like they do when you install them from the factory

There is significant weight differences between the older and newer headlights. The newer style have the motors for the active feature. Thats the only reason they use the older ones on the BS. I have found that the newer style lights are also more prone to failure of the ignitor and other unknown electrical issues. Over the past 3 years I've bought and sold 15 lights for the CLK. 5 of the newer style had electronic issues. Of those 5, I was unable to make 3 of them work and working with a shop foreman at the local MB dealer we could not figure out what the root cause was. Those 3 became parts donors and I also tried various methods to open them up. I have both new and old style for my car and currently use the older style as they weigh less although I prefer the look of the newer style. I have had many offers, but don't think i'll sell since I swap them occasionally for a different look when I feel like it. I do have some with broken tabs that may or may not work. These I might list on ebay as as-is with no guarantee.

How much would a ignitor cost? And if there is a unknown electrical issue, can a MB dealer fix it or is it trash?
Also, the newer ones are more prone to failure due to the active motor feature, but if i got working one, the active feature would no longer be an issue, thus would that make it less prone to failure? And since you got both, how much more would you say the newer style weights? Thanks for the great insight

Seriously. I'm guessing if i get the new set and it's in working condition i should be good. I'm just curious to see how much a ignitor costs. CLK500 seems to have a lot of backround on these lights

I don't think it's an expensive fix. If I recall correctly there's a cheap DIY floating around.

Ok I'll try to answer some of the questions posed. First the newer xenon light weights just a touch over 8 pounds. I can't weight an older style as the only ones are installed on my car. I would guess its probably 3 to 3.5 pounds heavier. Not a giant number, but it all adds up.

For those that sent me PM or email saying I was slinging BS I present this photo taken today showing 4 newer style plus the fact that I have 2 older style in my car. I did not feel the need to show the original halogens, but I can if you want. You know who you are.....

disregard the Honda generator. Its winter here and you gotta be prepared....

As to the repair or lack of a repair the ignitors are different on the newer and older style lights. For some reason which I can't figure out and neither could a MB factory tech the newer ones fail to light up frequently or will light up once and then go out and never come back on. We suspect there is a grounding issue, but could not track it down and its cheaper to buy another light then it is to troubleshoot paying factory rates..... The issue *could* be with the added complexity of the motor, but that does not explain why it won't light. I have bought so many of these lights and installed for friends and others that I've seen a trend in the newer ones that I don't like. I have never had a problem with the older either on a retrofit or a reinstall on a car with the xenons from the factory. I don't know the cost on the ignitors as I always have a light or 2 around to pull parts. I will try and find a set of older lights to weight. I'll call my buddy who owns a wrecking yard, but these don't come it often. Hope this helps.

its not just the weight of the headlights themselves, theres other parts installed in the car to make the active and leveling features work. This is why they wont level out when you install them, it would be costly to wire the car just to get them to level out

Do the lights on the floor work? If so how much shipped to 92604?
