removing buffer trails
hi my truck has a lot of halograms/buffer trails from a crappy detailing shop last year. you notice it in direct sunlight. my father in law has a 10' orbital buffer. will this do the trick to remove the buffer trails? i have meguiars scratch x. would this work? or should i use a cutting polish like meguiars 82? and what type of pads would i use? this will be my first time buffering with a orbital machine. i've applied many different polishes by hand but it won't remove the halograms. Please help me, i am a noob....
I would not recommend your 1st attempt with a orbital be on a black car... do you not have a quality detail shop in your area that could handle the paint restoration this time and you do a good job of maintaining the finish going fwd?
and scratch x will be much too abrasive... check the detailing section of the board for what to use.

Talk to Ken. He can help you out. He will show you everything and teach you at the sametime. A bit of a drive into maple ridge, but well worth the trip.
Call in advance though, because he does outcalls a lot.

I'm not sure waht kind of buffer you have access to. But if you have access to a Porter Cable type, get some foam pads and some M105 and M205 (Meguires) and foam pads and you will be going "wow, I did that myself!" Read up on it on a site called Detailed Image. Serach for M105 in the product reviews area.
Probably more info than you wanted.....but these products are some of the best products for our paint.

ok i followed this link's instruction, and did one of the rear doors on my suv. after applying more pressure and rubbing in a small section at a time only by hand and no machine, it actually removed the swirls!
tomorrow i will try this method by hand again and see if all the buffer trails/holograms will be completely removed.
what i did before was put on a light layer of meguiars scratch x and quickly wiped it away with a microfiber towel. the instructions in the link states to rub it in and work it in fairly good and i did that now and it seems to work!
more importantly, it also removed light scratches and spidery swirl marks in the process. now you can actually see the little pearl specs in the paint job...

i changed them before, but the fitment was not good so it would always keep popping off. i ordered another set from ebay and the same thing happened, it would just pop right off. i will probably just smoke them wit the spray...
