2007 clk550 with 55K leaking valve cover

Leaking oil from the driver side valve cover all the way in the back right next to the firewall. There is small heat shield on the corner of the head right below the valve cover and the oil is dripping from it to the exhaust. I read all the DIY and took the engine cover of and discovered that my engine looks different from all DIY.
1. Is this common?
2. Do I need the valve cover gasket?
3. Should I fix only one side? The other side is very clean.
4. Should I replace spark plugs?
5. Should I replace the belt?

I will be replacing the air filters any other suggestions. Bought the car about two weeks ago 2007 clk550 Designo with 55K miles. The car is in excellent shape and very clean inside and out. Thanks.

I tried at parts dot com and the valve cover gasket for clk550 is not listed. I am suspecting that 550 engine is not using the valve cover gasket. The belt is not cracked and looks ok. What is recommended milage to replace the belt?

Just came back from sears and home depot; they do not carry inverted torx. Some of the bolts are very tight and I am afraid to mess them up using the 8mm socket. Will order something online.

Received the tools and tried working on the car. This is the worst car I ever worked on...worse than 3000GT vr4. I had more than 15 cars and worked on all of them. There is no space, electrical connections are impossible to disconnect too many bolts and when things fall out of your hands they disappear.

It looks like I will have to remove fuel rail and some of the electrical wiring to get access to the valve cover. I will also have to jack up the car, remove plastic and retrieve thing that fell. I am getting too old for this shxx my last two cars were new.

I know you didn't see it but my guess is......you do have the valve cover gasket that goes only around the out side edge of the cover and use silicon on the inside of the cover. I just don't see it from the design point of view only use silicon all over the cover. Btw, you mean the fuel line (driver side) that go to the fuel rail, right? To me, fuel rail are where the injectors.

No, its the actual fuel rail that is on top of the wiring and yes a fuel line goes to it. If I can only get my hands of these German engineers...I have two engineering degrees and do not understand how they can design ....You can only comfortably work on the engine when the engine is out of the car, but then again Japanese cannot build a car like this.

I think I found the problem luckly I did not have a chance to fully remove the valve cover from the head. I think there is a recall on this issue and its not the valve cover. Can someone please confirm I also created a thread on the article.

What is the torque on the valve cover bolts? I removed like ten of them and there still more than 5 left.

Unless it got the new "direct injection" fuel system, the injectors goes straight down through the head and not through the intake manifold like the old system.
