I'll get flamed for this cause there's tons of exhaust threads, but I didn't see this anywhere. Has anyone done this? I'm just wondering how loud it will be OEM minus just the muffler.

Not having the muffler will be very very loud and maybe the lost of torques.

The few members who have done it said they loved the way it sounded. It just might be on the loud side

One of them needs to do a YouTube so you can hear it (or at least get a feel for it).

Klinh, I don't want to start another tiff here so take this with a grain of salt okay?

If you delete the muffler and re-install the factory res it's definitely going to be louder but the actual volume is dependent on how many cats you have online as well. When I did my exhaust I added headers, 2nd cat delete, replaced the factory res with a huge res and went straight out the back - it was so loud I added another res (muffler, straight through, no chambers) and the sound is perfect.

For you with factory manifolds, I would say go for it, I bet you'll be very pleasantly surprised. As for the loss of torque, none whatsoever, your factory primary cats are providing plenty of back pressure. My completely unrestrictive system with only primary cats put down considerably more torque than the stock setup.

There's my two cents.

My CLK550: No muffler, deleted the big resonator, left the small resonators in, added in a magnaflow x-pipe.

Question - on replacing exhaust to custom setup - did anyone chip the computer as well and/or change the air filters?

I have noticed my clk seems slower, I thought it was do to loss of BP but I was told the Benz computers change to correct the car from running lean or rich by itself - Anyone Know About This or did the chip and found it made big diff.

Thanks

There is no "chip" for these cars, it's called a tune. You get a custom file written to your ECU. Look up "tune" an you should find plenty of info. Yes it does make a difference.
