Service Indicator Truth

Service Indicator Truth
I'm a newbie to the forum. Just started driving an 04 CLK 500. The B service warning has triggered based based on time (2 years); only have 4,000 miles since last service. After much research and trying every method suggested, can't clear the indicator. Dealer and local shop (who want to make big $$$ doing an oil change) tell me that no matter what Owner's Manual says, I need to have the indicator reset by the dealer or someone with a "star" computer. What is the truth??? Any help appreciated.

im surprised you werent able to reset it with the method that mbworld member klinh posted up. if you cant, take it to an indy shop as wes suggested and have them reset it. although, you should do an oil change.

Thanks. I tried the suggested method, but could not get the system to display the service indicator page. I plan on searching out a good independent MB shop.

when the service message go into the super secret menu(the one for dynomode) in that menu it shows/asks you if u want to clear service...ive done it a few times since i get an oil change every 4kmiles and the Service they tell you that you should do is bull****. Why pay Mercedes a hundred something dollars an hour to Visually Check your brakes

Can you list the first 2 steps of what you did? Maybe we can help you. I know step 1 step is the most importance step.

Mine was a butt pain, only because I was too lazy to go through the manual slowly to understand which knobs were which and such, and it is a tad ambiguous. But after about 6 tries I figured it out. It will probably be just as hard the next time too.
