Hey I know that this topic is a little old, but does anyone have a black w209 and have the black housing on these head lights installed? I want to see some pics. I'm just about to buy these this month, but I need to figure out if I want to go chrome or black housing.

CLK 350
just got the quad xenons on my black clk. will post pictures later this week.

FYI - i live in southern california and i drove to "Fishcake" (the seller on ebay) warehouse since i was having problems with my quads xenons not aligning properly. The guys there were very helpful and professional. they fixed my issues and i am 100% satisfied with their service. ask for Kevin, he was the guy helping me out the entire time i was there. i also got all my lights swapped with white.

just thought i share my experience with those interested in purchasing anything in the future with this seller and were curious to their customer service.

Thats what opinions are for, but there are 20 plus w209's members on this forum that love them. I personally think they look better than the OEM ones.

Just came across these Crystal clear LED DRL Projector headlights from Mars Performance in Clayton Melbourne Australia, will be getting soon maybe after Xmas

http://marsperformance.com.au/Crysta...-CLK-W209-C209

While the price might seem expensive this is a good price in Australia, if one wants the Bi-Xenon fitted at a Mercedes dealership in Melbourne they will set you back over $4000

Mars Performance will install them for $150

There is a adjustment screw on the lights.. At night I pulled my car up to my garage door about 10 feet away. and went from there. . Here is one link on how it can be done. I kinda just eyed mine and it was perfect.

I have these and I put HIDs in the high-beams as well. I bought this kit:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercedes-Benz-C-class-Can-Bus-Headlight-HID-conversion-Kits-NO-ERROR-Best-hids-/251303323082?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3a82d865ca
But the seller contacted me and said it was out of stock and sent this one (no add'l charge):

http://www.ebay.com/itm/251164352715?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D251164352715%26_rdc%3D1
It works fine and is of decent quality. I only have two complaints - in addition to the ballast, there are two extra components in the wiring which give me more "stuff" to hide behind the headlights. Also, I requested 6000K and the package had the 6000K box checked, but they are more yellow than the 6000K lights I have in the low-beams. That was no big deal, though. And even though there is extra "stuff", the ballasts are smaller (about 2/3 the size) of the ballasts on the low-beams.

'04 CLK 500
Couple of questions for the folks I the know on this head light topic. Have an 04 CLK500 convertible and the headlight lenses are junk. I also have the bi-xenon lights. Replacement cost is $2200

1) can I use the non xenon lights off eBay (around $450) as a replacement? not interested in self leveling or cornering.
2) If I can't, has anyone used the lenses off any od the cheap lights on eBay as replacements on the stock assembly?

Thoughts and experience appreciated!

Are the lenses cloudy? I think I'd spend the money to have them professionally restored before replacing with aftermarket headlights. The aftermarket units, even the Depo brand, are nowhere near the quality of OEM in terms of the bulb housing, suspension, wiring, etc.

I have tried, no luck. They are severely pitted in addition to cloudy. I was thinking about a smoke covering of some type to hide the hideousness of the lenses.....

Rudeney,

Let me thank you for your post. It got me thinking. When I purchased the car for my wife, I asked the dealer to buff out the headlights. He said he did, thus my comment that I have tried. However, I went and picked up a kit this afternoon and viola! They look 1000 times better. Miffed at the dealer for lying to me, but glad the result is what it is. So thanks again for putting me over the edge on this.....

sigh... I know Rudeney is right.

I decided that this weekend I was finally going to restore my OEM headlights, so I won't be going after market right now. (Does anyone know about how long a restoration will last?)

But I am so torn... i really love the look of these.

Speaking about aftermarket headlight quality, I have some experience with that. I have the "fishcake" lights from the original post in this thread on my CLK. They are just "barely adequate". The shutters vibrate almost too much, and I can't get them properly aligned so that the left and right projector cut-offs match up in both near and far fields. The electrical connectors needed some work as one of the pins had dropped down. The left headight's lateral adjustment doesn't work well. I also don't like the design of the lenses for the city light and turn signals - instead of them using the entire low (for turn signals) and high (for city lights) beam reflector housings, they shine out of these tiny little lenses. The high-beam projector lenses are "foggy" looking, so even though I have HIDs in them, they aren't very bright. So, I say "barely adequate", meaning that for the price, they work, but I think I'd much rather have OEM bi-xenon projector units. I just gav up trying ot find a good pair under $1k.

On my C240 (that the 19yo drives), the right headlight had to be replaced after an accidnet and they used an aftermarket port. I never could get the light aligned well, so one day I pulled the headlight and found that the pivot point was broken and it loosk liek it came that way (bad moulding in the plastic).

So, given the better optics and better build quality, I'd recommend against aftermarket headlights.

All good info in this thread! I was excited in getting these for my 2005 CLK320 that I just picked up because it has halogen housings and they look ugly.. I was thinking of picking up the black housings since the car we have is all black...

But reading Rodney's post above has me thinking twice about dropping 400 for them...

Any updates from users who have been using these now for 2+ years...

Thanks,
-Nigel
