black or white...?

my dream was always to have a white merc. right now i'm driving a 99 silver clk and will order the w209 next week.

the problem is, i can't really decide on the color. at the dealer they only have a black clk which i really like, but as i said, i've always dreamt of a white one but i've never seen one in person. all they have is a white cl500 but it's kinda hard to compare those two;-)

so i just wanted to know if you have any pro or cons to any of the two colors mentioned. i think the white one is more of a headturner (at least here in switzerland) but i'm not too shure whether the color really matches the new clk.

thanks for your feedback

2003 CLK 320
I think that the the new 2003 clk looks great in the darker colors. I have a new 2003 clk and debated do I want silver or black opal. I went with the black opal it is more work to keep it clean and with the dark color you have to worry about the swirl marks. After having the car about 7 months I still would chose the darker color, I think the darker color makes the car look classy with the new body style. I have not seen a white car in person. I have seen pictures I am sure there are some on this site. What every color you chose I am sure you will love the car.

CLK does look better on darker color. I think, white color is the least desirable color on the CLK. I have a black CLK, it looks awesome; however, it's a little bit work to maintain it.

Go black. There are few cars that look good in white. SL looks terrible! Unless you have your car pimped-out, white remains an elderly person's color.

I am 23.... I love white and wanted only white when I ordered the car....yeah, i know, white is not a popular color in MB, but I can tell you that I get a lot of compliments and I rarely see any white CLKs around!!! It's rare, easier to maintain, and it's "elegnat" not elderly...j/p

There was a thread a while back about retrofitting quad-exhaust onto a white CLK500.....that thing is SEXY!!!!!

I think the new CLK and E looks great in white. I had my black 209 in for service at the dealer, and saw a white/stone 209. Looked great. There are some pictures posted some four months ago by "vstyle" in this forum of his white 209. Personally i think you should have either stone or gray interior with it.

If your dream is a white one, go for it.

Cheers

I guess I'm with the minority here, but I think white is great. Especially if you get a 500, you can see the curves and body kit easier with the white versus black. I saw one on the freeway and it looked amazing. But then again, I favor light color cars over dark. And the main reason....because a white benz is your dream car. In my opinion, go for white.

thanx for the feedback so far.
yes, silver shure looks nice but i've had silver cars for the past 3 years and kinda got bored with the color. 90% of all the mb's over here are silver. that's why i wanted something more "exotic".

i just found the thread with pics of a white clk and i must say that i probably go for the white one:

Yeah,

That's actually the guy I bought my Brabus Suspension from. It does look good, but in the STL, you don't see ANY W209's at all.

Since they've came out I've seen 2 Black CLK 500's and NO 320's. I took the 320 off the back and put "BRABUS" on it. Yes, I am a poser (no Brabus engine upgrades), but it keeps everyone thinking!

who cares.. as long as it looks nice

i like your rims. i'll probably get some chromes a bit later, business is a bit slow these days so i'll have to save some money first

you know the color was one thing but then i had to decide whether to get a fully loaded 240 (probably not available in the us) or a 320 without options.

i decided on taking the 240 with comand and nav, keyless go and bose soundsystem, since i'm not too concerned about hp...

My wife loves her new white CLK 500 with quad exhausts. The alabaster white with chrome wheel, chrome exhaust tips really sets the car out. No more black cars for this family. White easier to take care of..plus cooler in the hot Texas summers. Tint the windows and drive that baby.

I've got a silver 500 and I love the look of it. My prior 2 cars were white so I know what you mean about getting something different. My wife just got a black Saab and it needs daily work to keep that color clean. Go for the white the pics you had look really nice I think you will be happy with the choice.

black and white are like the nicest colors

dont get silver...if you compare the 3 side by side, silver is like the "in-between-color"

it looks nice but its still not as good as black and white

Black is nice, but I've owned 3 black cars (95 Viper RT/10, 98 Corvette, and 99 CLK 320) so I'm done w/ black for a while.

White, to me, is a girlish color and adds no real personality to a car. Black is a "mean" or a "get out of my way" color. Silver is a "elegant" or "rich" color. White is "BORING" (kidding)--just not my style.

I really like the new Pewter color. Although I'd probably still get black, or a dark color, pewter would be my light color choice. I wouldn't grabbed it on my C230, but didn't think it looked good with a black interior, and the ash doesn't look as good with aluminum trim along with being hard to keep clean.

Get what you want. You have to drive it so you should choose the colour that you like the best. No one else can make that decision.

certainly... but i was still curious how people thought about the two colors and/or if they had any bad experiences with either of them (hard to keep clean, etc..)

I ordered a black clk 200 kompressor fully loaded last week. should be arriving beginning of august.

The colour depends on the purpose of it...

Either you buy a black avantgarde with red and black leather
or you buy a white elegance with beige leather and TV.

is it a sportscar you want or a cruiser?

if u want a a sportscar, think again. The CLK is a cruiser, if your searching for a sportscar, buy a BMW.

Not big on the euro racer look cleared lenses give a car, but amber ones do stand out like a sore thumb against a beautiful white car.

CLK320 & SLK230
i'd probably go for the white/ash w209 if I sell my current clk320 ^^
I like white indeed , and I feel pretty tired on the dark colour ( most of my ex-cars were in black )
my .02 anyway

Can't stand black cars - especially on a small coupe like the CLK where white looks great. Take that for what's its worth - i.e. One persons opinion.
